49cc cateye wiring help!

Hello all,

I need some help with the wiring on my 49cc cateye, I purchased a cateye used off somebody and they did one hell of a hack job on the wiring, I don't know what they did, but they twisted wires together and everything else, none of them had connectors, so I decided to put connectors on everything, well I got alittle head of myself and I think I have done something wrong. I just bought a new battery for it because the battery was dead, I put the new battery on it, and yeah it started, all the lights work, but the wiring that goes to the battery got really hot, also when i turn the key off, it's no longer actually shutting the bike off like it was before I started trying to fix the mess wiring. yeah I know, shouldnt try to fix it if it's working, but I didnt want to take a risk of a fire or anything.

There is also a wireless that comes off the motor, well 2 wires actually, one is white, and the other is black with white strip, on the plug itself, it says "flameout", well the white wire is hooked up, but the black with white stripe isnt, any clue where that is supposed to go? also, my turn signals do not flash anymore, i've got the little flasher box hooked up to the plug with a pink wire and a black wire, is that right?

if somebody can help me figure out where all the wires on this thing need to go i would appreciate it.

I do admit that everything was fine and working, untill i messed with it, but I was just trying to clean it up and put some connectors on the wires to prevent a fire.

Re: 49cc cateye wiring help!

If somebody could tell me, I need to know exactly what wires go to the selenoid, as in, where they come from (plugs/motor) and to the selenoid and on what side of the selenoid, if somebody could answer that question for me it would be much appreciated.

If this might help some of you I have kind of typed up how some of the wiring is going, other then the lights I think

Green wire from motor is going to battery plug

Red wire from battery plug is going to solenoid (not sure if I have it going to the right side of the selenoid though)

Another Red wire from solenoid is going to charge port plug, and then those are twisted to the orange wire that is going to the key switch

Black wire with white stripe is going to “frameout” plug which plugs into wire cable that goes into the motor motor

then there is some kind of box thing that is metal with plastic top that has three wires coming out of it, which is as follows:

Black from box thing to green wire on charge port plug, green wire from box thing to solenoid (not sure if it's on the right side), red wire from box thing to solenoid (not sure if it's on the right side)

Hopefully this might help some of you out

Thank you

Re: 49cc cateye wiring help!

I have done a wiring diagram of how my cateye is wired right now, it's the best that I could do, there are some notes on the image itself, I hope this might help soem of you figure out what is going on, notice I didnt put EVERY wire on this, the wires that I didnt put on it are mainly wires that go from one plug to another plug for the lights.

I hope somebody can help me figure out what I have wired wrong.

once again, when I try to start the bike with the start button, the battery cables get really hot!, oh yeah, and my blinkers don't flash either, i have the flasher box connected to the turn signal plug and i've never removed it from that plug! they used to flash before i started messing with the wiring and now they don't!

Thank you

The black and white wires go to the kill switch, well the key in your situation but those kill the engine....

now as far as color codes LOL HAHAHAHAHAHA no such thing on these chinese bikes... so dont even rack your brain trying to figure out colors....

There is no possible way to try and explain what wire goes where as far as colors go since each bike is different, no consistency bewteen bikes or manufacturers...

the two small wires from the starter relay go to the start button and ground... A pos (+) wire from the key to the start button, from the button to one of the wires on the relay, the other wire on the relay goes to ground... The heavy wire from the starter goes to one side of the relay, the other heavy wire goes to the pos + side of the battery...

Re: 49cc cateye wiring help!

hey my cateye 49cc was owned by some kid who didnt know much about wiring. i suspect he cut all the wires and soldered them himself. but anyway. my blinkers and head lights work good just my back break light doesn't work must be a bad connection i have yet to test uit properly, but that is not the problem i needed resolved. My electric starter starts turning as soon as it is connected to a battery again this may be some bad connection issues due to the kids crappy wiring but also the starter doesnt turn easy with the spark plug in well atleast not enough to get the engine going. i have tried changing the solanoid but there was no difference. also my wires that connect to the battery get hot when they are attached.my horn doesnt work either probably because i can't see anything that resembles a horn besides the right and left indicator light relay which makes that sighing beep noise.

does anyone have a wiring diagram of a good 49cc cateye wiring diagram? i wanted to try and rewire the wire harness myself.

please help me out

oh yeah by the way the bike runs fine and so do the lights when you run them straight of the engine but they get brighter when you go faster for obvious reasons.

Tewsmooth would you be willing to share that schematic/diagram with me? I have a cat eye sitting here in my garage that someone has done a great job of screwing up. I would appreciate any help you could provide.

pull the sparkplug and clean it up,,make sure its gapped to .030" then put some gas down the sparkplug hole,,replace the plug,,crank it to see if you get a pop........If you get a reaction you have a carb/fuel delivery problem,,,If not you got a coil /sparkplug problem...
