hOW DO YOU TEST IF THE SPARK PLUG IS FIRING

How do i test if the spark plug is firing? Do i take out the plug from the head and while its still attached to the coil cable do i give the pull start a tug?

Re: hOW DO YOU TEST IF THE SPARK PLUG IS FIRING

I had the same problem but Nick J told me how to, heres how and i quote:

"Pull the plug out, put the rubber boot back on the plug, hold the boot and plug (by the rubber boot so you don't get a little shock) touch the metal thread section of the spark plug to a metal section of the engine or frame and pull the pull start while looking for a nice blue spark."

hope this helps,

In addition to what NickJ has stated you should also hold the plug in the boot 1/2-3/4" away from the engine fins and see if the spark can jump the 1/2" -3/4" gap to ground...If the coil isnt powerful enough to make the spark jump check your flywheel magnet and pickup coil for rust and proper spacing within the airgap between the two...Optimal gap is the thickness of a true business card.If the flywheel magnets,pick-up coil and air gap is good it may be time to replace the coil....One sure test is by disconnecting the killswitch and using starting fluid to see if you get a kick.......................Peace
