Angry [X18] Street Legal in Washington?

Hello,

I currently have an x-18 R Nitro pocket bike in Washington state, and i've been trying to get it licensed for weeks now, but the DOL is giving me a hard time in licensing it.

Here's the full conversation...

DMV

Good Morning,

We have done some research and from what we have found out, we are unable to register a pocket bike because of federal standards. If you would like more information about this then you can contact Washington state patrol at 360-596-4017. Have a great day.

Hello,

Thank you for looking into this. I just have one last question. . What if i were to register it as a motorcycle. As long as it reaches a height limit, has mirrors, blinkers, headlight etc. all the legal requirements WA state cannot turn my bike down to be registered as a street legal bike.?

Thank you.

Good Afternoon,

I have contacted Washington state patrol and asked them. This is what they told me.

“Washington State has adopted federal standards in registering vehicles. In order to register a motorcycle as street use in the state of Washington it would have to have a valid VIN and the manufacture would have to state that it meets federal standards and safety standards to be registered as street legal. She told me that these bikes do not meet those requirements and are not allowed to be registered as street legal.” This is coming straight from Washington state patrol. As I stated in my previous email we would not be able to register the vehicle as street legal. Have a great day.

Hello,

I just looked at the bike once again to see if it has these requirements, and i found the manufacture vin number. As we'll as a statement located directly above the vin stating...

"This vehicle conforms to an applicable U.S Federal motor safety standard (FMVSS) effection to the date of manufacture shown above."

It looks like this vehicle does meet all the VIN requirements, and has met federal standards and safety.

Thank you.

Good afternoon Chris,

The Customer Service call center forwarded your concerns regarding titling and licensing a pocket bike. On September 27, 2004 a media release from the Washington State Patrol went out to the public. It reads in part : “Pocket bikes, pocket rockets, and other similar type of mini motorcycles are small, fast, and manufactured primarily as a racing bike and intended for Off-Road Use Only.

Pocket bikes may not be legally operated on public roads. Additionally, they may not be operated on sidewalks, bike lanes, trails, or anyplace prohibiting the use of motorized vehicles. Pocket bikes are similar in performance to a motor-driven cycle or a motorcycle. Pocket bikes meet the definition of a motorcycle outlined in Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 46.04.330, however pocket bikes do not meet many of the equipment requirements for motorcycles that may be legally operated on roadways.”

In additional research VIN **** was run through a Vin decoding application. The response was undetermined. It was also run through the National Motor Vehicle Information System (NMVTIS) and there was no vehicle titling history for your pocket bike. These are also good indicators that the pocket bike is not intended for road use.

If you choose to ride your pocket bike, I would suggest checking local ordinances in the city/area you reside. The Customer Service representative who assisted you provided good information and I’m in agreement with that information. I will attach some RCW’s regarding equipment requirements for your review along with the printout of the undetermined VIN. If you still wish to pursue this matter further, please contact the State Patrol Equipment and Standards section.

Thank you,

Re: [X18] Street Legal in Washington?

The biggest problem you did was call it a pocket bike once you do that and gave them the vin your probably done trying to register it I that state
I would argue that there is no information on it due to it has never been registered before

you have the placecard Affixed to the vehicle that states from the manufacturer that it meets fmvss and it is riveted to the frame I actually have two bikes registered in ma that took me a long time and a lot of persistence getting it done
Never say pocketbike
These must be registered as a motorcycle and they do not fall under any other class
Other than they may be considered as a low speed vehicle which are a new law this year
But all I can tell you now is try and title it not register in another state either by a friend or relative then bring the title back as they sold it to you and register it or the only other option is to get a special build title they will send a officer out or you will have to bring it to them for inspection if you do this you have one shot make sure
Seat height is legal
Mirrors
Legal d. O. T. Tires
Legal seat height for state
Both brakes are working there best signals are set at legal distance
Lights must be visible from 500ft
One headlight must always be on when ignition is on
And you will need a high and low beam headlight as well
It can be done and I would not give up if you need any help locating parts let me know pm me or if you have any questions

Re: [X18] Street Legal in Washington?

I just tried to buy a new 125cc ATV from MPR, and they said all pocket bikes, ATV's are not legal and they can not even ship one to California and they are around L.A.. But they can ship them to other states. I live in a redwood forest, if they try to get me on my ZX1 extreme 110cc dirt bike, I am heading into the forest where the Pigs can't drive there patrol cars. I can here them now, Stop or will shoot, and I will flip them the finger and scream, shot Pigs, lol.
So, now I am really an Outlaw, they will never take me alive, lol.

Re: [X18] Street Legal in Washington?

No one comes from behind on my X18 cuase it has 15/28 and hits 50+ mph on the China speedo in 3rd gear & the speed limit is 35 mph. Had 16/28 but that was to high, put the 15 up front and my rear hydraulics brakes went out an ran one pad into the disc, caught it just in time,lol.. Just got it fixed and it started raining again, kind of like England, right Mate, lol.

Re: [X18] Street Legal in Washington?

Ordered my 125cc ATV w/ reverse today, its Cal legal what ever that means & in California now anything over 49cc has to be Registered in Cal. So, when it gets here have to go back to PSMax and get a number or something. They told me, to open the crate when it gets here and report damage, so we will see.
