Brief Intro

Hey everyone, I recently learned about pocket bikes and I'm excited to get started with them and be apart of the community. Some things about me: I'm 5'6 and growing, 130 pounds, 15 years old, and I'm getting into pocket bikes to have a fun way to spend my free time and race with my friends. Now I just need to find myself a good bike

What Bike Should I Buy?

Hey guys, its me again. I was intending on posting this questing in the general forum, but I don't think I've been activated by an administrator or something along those lines, so I couldn't post yet. On to my question: What pocket bike is best for me? I have a budget of $400 bucks, I'm pretty short (as mentioned above) and I'm looking for something that looks like a sport bike and is great for racing. It would be perfect if it: goes at least 45mph, is a 4-stroke (but I'll settle with a 2), bigger is better, is reliable, and maybe has a good aftermarket (if thats even a thing with these bikes). I've been looking at bikes like the Blade 49R and the GP RS-R.

Thanks

Re: Brief Intro

If you can find one cheap enough that needs little or no work I would go with a 110cc super pocket bike. Like and x18,x19, etc. If you can't find one like that the I would go with a cag or if you could find a cheap euro bike like a blata or polini.

Yeah, an x18 or an x19 would be sick, but I don't know where I could find one used.

Re: Brief Intro

Thanks.
I also looked into Cags and I think I really like them. At first, I found the Blade more appealing because it was a 4-stroke, yet now my perspective has changed after learning how good Cags are for modding.

Re: Brief Intro

Welcome to the addiction. I have 3 bikes, an x19, x18, and a newly aqwired Cag. X19 is heavy, i'd say about 10-15 lbs heavier than an x18. X18 is narrower and a lil' taller, maybe 2-3 inches taller. A cag is about half the size of an x19 and about 1/4 of the weight. I'm also a newbie, there are awesome people on here that will help you with your new bike.

Re: Brief Intro

Im gonna be honest with you. My cag has cost me way more than it is worth. I would either go with a real euro bike or maybe get a 110cc super pocket bike. I am a year younger than you, taller and about the same weight. And my cag is super uncomfortable. And it takes quite a bit of money to make it go fast. Mine goes about 60kmh. And that is highly modded. While a 110 will go 45mph plus stock and has gears. Or you could get a nice race style go kart. I kinda wish I got one. And on chinese bikes things break often and then you have to wait a while for parts and then fix it, etc. Just my two cents.

I forgot to mention I live in the outskirts of Nashville, TN. Used pocket bikes aren't easy to come by over here, so I'm pretty certain I won't be able to get my hands on a euro unless there is a way to ship it. Unfortunately, I'm also not ready to drop more than 500 on a toy, so Chinese may be my only option. You also said it takes a while to get Cag parts in, but I've seen people saying they had their parts shipped in 5 days, and all the parts are on minipocketrockets.com . If this is true, it's plenty fast for me. I may just have to deal with the lack of comfort ?

This picture is the only pocket bike on my local craigslist, and it's priced at $125:

Re: Brief Intro

on the search box in my local craigslist i type these words, never more than two words at a time:

Pocket bike
mini bike
mini motorcycle
minimoto
mini moto
mini ninja
110cc
49cc
50cc
crotch rocket
gas bike
pit bike

people selling these things often don't know what they're called so they just try to describe them as best they can.

Re: Brief Intro

Hey welcome! I'm 5'5" I love my cags. Once you get the right pegs they aren't too uncomfortable. A cag is great to get into pocket bikes, lean how to race and really understand how engines work. That cag you listed is probably worth about $50-$80 it needs a lot of work.

The blades aren't available and the 4 stroke cags are show and can't be modded well. Check this bike out.

You should get this bike. I'll see if I can find a cheaper one.

I love that bike (the M1), but is it worth the extra $270? Thats over double the Cag's price. I'm also only looking into 2-stroke Cags if I get a Cag.

Re: Brief Intro

It's worth is entirely up to you. You can't get a blade anymore that is a 2 stroke. If you order one they will give you the 4 stroke model. So if you want a brand new cag the link I posted is your best bet.

Re: Brief Intro

Update:

I've decided to pull the trigger on a Cag. I'm choosing it for A. Its extensive aftermarket (via ebay and performance parts from a certain website that specializes in Cags); B. Its affordability, I'm even getting it on sale from the website I'm buying it from; and C. The large Cag community I've found here on the forum. I think this will be really useful once I start working on it!

Thanks for everyone's advice, I've already learned a lot (although still a lot more to learn!) about different types of pocket bikes. I'll post a thread once I get it and will showcase my build.

MPRs

I can't give you a full name or else I'd get suspended (via forum rules)

Desktop Edit:

They don't just specialize in Cags, they say they have "performance upgrades" built specially for Cags. The also do the same for the MX3, GS-R, etc. I think its the main website that sells new Cags, Their claimed #1 seller is the Blade.

Re: Brief Intro

Update:

I was going to order a Cag from minipocketrockets once I got back from my vacation, but I learned that nobody sells 2-stroke Cags anymore, and that 2-stroke pocket bikes are hard to come by. I'm home from my vacation now and ready to order a bike, but I've changed my mind now and decided that if I can't get a Cag, I want a cheap ($400-) mini dirt bike, like the KTX. I want to know where I can get the fastest of this style of bike, usapocketrockets, minipocketrockets, or pocketbikesunlimited? I obviously don't want to get scammed, so which site should I order from? Once I get my bike, I'll also want aftermarket parts, so I'll need a good site for those, as well.

Thanks.

Re: Brief Intro

If you double what you are willing to spend there is a guy selling a Euro bike on here that would be perfect. It would be REALLY fast. Reliable.etc.

Would love to buy something more than $400, but I can't, my parents see it as a "waste of my money", even though they're fine with me buying hundreds of dollars worth of aftermarket once I buy a bike.

I'm leaning towards buying the KTX from MPRs for its size and swapping in a 49cc 2-stroke motor into it and building it from there.
