X1 boost port piston or not?

So my friend has a X1 and he ordered the ''performance package''.
It was supposed to come with:
-boost port piston
-rocket key
-exhaust
-race carb and cable.
So it was missing the rocket key so we machined one out of a wider key but once we assembled the bike with the boost port piston, it was actually more sluggish. Thinking about it, the boost port on the side of the piston would indeed help when you have reed valves but the X1 does not use them so I wonder if it allows the air mixture to be pushed back towards the carb.
So my question is:
Has anyone else used these ''performance kits'' on a X1? We're trying to setup his bike so we can go and have some fun so I have some interest in seeing his bike run good!
P.S. we have put the original piston back in and it seems to be better... are we missing something?

I have an engine for you I just built, has 8mm studs out of the block, with 49cc cut stock cyld, match to Cag reed port round alum alloy head. Very high compression, getting ready to start it soon. Rocket key, lite flywheel with modified clutch & racing spring, new coil, spark plug everything. $250.00 shipped, it has a 15mm pumper now, I could change to a 16mm clone pumper carb for free, for $30 more, $280, will put a real Walbro WT-813 16mm pumper with accell pump, w/ billet V-stack on billet alum intake manifold w/ boost fitting for a bottle the carb alone was $35 plus an air filter, ready to Rock & Roll, loo. Have more than $400 labor alone, so I am giving it away, selling alot of pocket bikes and engines and parts.

That's a very nice engine EPR. I will let him know but after all the parts he threw in his I think he wants it to run and tinker with it instead of throwing more money at it you know. I will let him know though.. Just in case. I saw you were ill. Glad to see you're doing better!

Yeah, I guess its to late for him, when it warms up I will be able to sell it No problem. Have a lot of other engines & parts too. This engine has twice the HP of a stock engine.

It seems to run much better with the original piston in (switched them back). I guess he will run it with all the other parts of the kit and he will work on the reed modification next winter!
Another 10cm of snow this weekend and hopefully it clears quickly after that so we can run these bikes a bit!
