X2 Pocket Bike Engine Upgrade

I currently have a mostly completely stock X2 pocket bike. It is quite slow and I am thinking about replacing the stock engine with something faster.

The engine is automatic.

Any suggestions?

Re: X2 Pocket Bike Engine Upgrade

Thats a 4 stroke engine right? If so Swheels and Blitz know what you need. If its a piston port two stroke engine than EPRs your expert. And maybe SmokedTirez( CAM2 ) if he reads this thread.

Yeah talk to EPR about upgrades. Just a bit of a overview. Rocket key, lighten flywheel, better exhaust, upgraded carb, HP spark plug wire and spark plug boot, porting, high compression head, etc.

I got an engine for you, brand new, custom, hand built. Getting ready to mount it on my engine stand. Has a reed port alum alloy head and cut piston ported cyld. Everything has been modified, $250 shipped. Look under the parts for sell section here has a gold head. On my Pad, can't post photos of it off it.

Re: X2 Pocket Bike Engine Upgrade

I have too many engines, 2 weeks of labor 5 hrs. a day. I have a Cag FC crankshaft machined to fit the piston port cases small seal on one side, building a 40mm/40cc hot rod engine next. It should be double the horsepower you have now or more. Need a good big belly exhaust or make one. The muffler is for my test stand, you can have the gold Cag clutch housing if you want. Also, changed the 15mm pumper to a 16mm Walbro WT-603.

Have you tested it for speed and torque?

Re: X2 Pocket Bike Engine Upgrade

It's never been started, its brand new. If there is a problem I want to know now, plus it needs to be started and stop a few times and adj. the carb. I built a lot of engines everyone was different, never know what's going to happen when you first start. The piston goes up into the compression cap, I have the spark plug loose to make it easy to turn over for now. Will know more when I pull start the engine, might be to much compression might have to raise the cyld.

Get yourself a watercooled 50cc ducati monster engine or a KTM50 air cooled knockoff....Even a waterrcooled/aircooled euro engine from a Polini/GRC,,C1/2 MTA-4 will work too with either a jackshaft setup or a flippity flop of the rear swingarm and a pinion change.........

With the right skills you can triple the hp of that stock engine and mod the clutch so it has alot stronger takeoff......My X1 had a pretty strong bottomend takeoff with 12/25 gearing and hit top speeds of over 40mph on the 49cc engine with modifications......

Theres also a way to mod the CVT trans to custom variate............

I took a complete X2 powerplant n trans modded both and put them married together on a homemade standup scooter....The scooter with mods hit 50mph with super mods almost 63mph before the engine popped..........

Theres tons of threads here at PBP to help you if you got a dremel and the skills to use it........................Good Luck

Re: X2 Pocket Bike Engine Upgrade

The 49cc piston port engine has become a favorite over the 49cc Cag reed port for me. First I believe it is a real 49cc, the stroke 34mm x 44mm is 2mm / .080" longer than the R/P. No reeds, and the cyld/head unit has a real intake port, so when you add a boost fitting and bottle it is 1/2" for the exhaust port. The reed port, the flow goes thru the carb and manifold, thru the reeds and up the ports. That's why the P/P has a great takeoff. No-one sells FC cranks for the P/P. I have a Cag 10mm FC crank modified on a lathe buy a member here to fit the small crank seal on one side. I am putting it into a new set of piston port modified cases & cyld, w/ SKF main bearings and good seals. Then I have a good used highly modified 40mm cyld I got from SmokedTirez, 2 years ago, lol?? I just ordered from China, a Gold Billet Winged Head 5 port B/B Kit, with FC Crank, $65.90 USD shipping, it left San Francisco ICS Custom on the 7th of Sept. Stealing the head for the the P/P, plus a 19mm bored GSR 40 billet intake w/ boost fitting on a 19mm Walbro HDA 223B purge carb. S/Tz has done it many times even a 2 carb/reed R/P cases with P/P chopped cyld and Cag billet head, one of my favorites, lol. Here are a few photos of HP Piston Port engines from shops like PBU and private members. The last photo of the new red head engine I just sold for, $200 shipped. The Question is, What do you have in your wallet, lol?? Or, How Crazy do you want to get?? S/Tz and his posts will show you how to make an alky powered motor, alcohol, lol.

Looks like a great engine!

Today I was working on the bike and noticed oil leaking from the exhaust and was wondering if someone could give me insight on a possible problem.

Nothing too worry about. Its a two stroke so thats pretty normal. Maybe check your spark plug see if its running rich.

Re: X2 Pocket Bike Engine Upgrade

Ok I'll check the spark plug tomorrow.

I was also thinking about getting a 110cc engine from eBay for about $265.

Re: X2 Pocket Bike Engine Upgrade

2 strokes foul plugs a lot. NGKs are the best normal plug. You need a short 14mm plug, NGK BM6A or BM7A???, I bought 5 Bosch plugs online for less than $10 shipped, WSR6F #7547 used on chain saws, at the store you can use the Bosch #s to check for an NGK plug. The number 6 is a hotter plug than a 7, 8 & 9. Every plug size has many ranges to choose from, my racing bikes run 8 or 9, my X18 4 stroke a 7.

For any of my two strokes ive only fouled plugs because I once mixed the gas wrong putting in way too much gas.
