My new c1

Hey guys, I found a great deal on a c1. Had to drive to Canada to get it but the guy sure was polite haha. It needs a little bit of work but I'm excited.

Looks sick. Fairings look really aggressive. Can't believe you drove all the way too Canada. Should have stopped by and say hi eh?

Re: My new c1

So after a quick investigation by removing the front fairings, I found a loose engine mount, a broken exhaust mount. Brakes need terrible adjusting. And a broken foot peg. All kinda simple I hope.

Alright dude, you got it, Look at the rear arms where the axle goes through, talk about strong, mine they just flattened the tubing and punched a slot.

Re: My new c1

That's good to know, I didn't even notice. Hey, as I was looking at the bike I noticed it has a pipe that is a little different then a normal c1 or b1 for that matter. I've seen pics of c1's with this same pipe but I wonder if the other is better. This exhaust has a smaller longer head pipe and a wider belly. Is the other pipe better? What's the difference?

Here's a photo. My pipe is the same as the lower one. Would the upper one be better? Tsunami sells them.

Re: My new c1

You did not notice, cause Love is Blind, lol. The top pipe is more of a racing tuned pipe, short head pipe/big belly, good for top speed. For what you are doing the stock pipe is good enough. My C1 has a SS hp pipe I paid $119 shipped from Hong Kong, HRmotos no longer in business, he stiffed me on my last order 4 yrs. ago. Most of the exhausts have a clear coat, I paint all mine black. If that head pipe you made fits, the $65 BZM pipe might not be a bad deal.

Re: My new c1

Good to know. Well, today I was going through the bike brakes, wheels, frame and fixed a bunch of stuff. I then decided to check out the clutch. It's in good working order. Then I went to check out the pump belt. And I think I ran into a big problem. As you can see in the photo, it'd covered in rust and I can't find a belt any where. It was also really hard to spin. I checked the water house and I pinched them, they seemed to have a weird crunch to then. I took off the bottom one and water and metal chips came out... I know I have to take the case apart but from your experience is it even worth trying to get it running or should I just get a new motor off of eBay? The putting everything back together I think my pull start broke... I new the c1's were low quality but this is pretty bad.

Re: My new c1

Another thought, I could also just get the air cooled c1 top end and not even worry about the pump system. What do you think? New engine $225, top end $150

Edit: Scratch that idea... I can only get the a/c cyld and piston I can't find the cyld head. What should I do?

Re: My new c1

Alright, I freaked out a bit haha. I still have issues with the bike, but I'm going to first but a gasket kit and tear the engine apart and see exactly what is going on.

Re: My new c1

Now you know why he sold it! Didn't we have this talk about C1 and failing water pumps and burnt up engines?? I would just pull the engine, take the carb and intake off and look inside the engine, first the pump shaft bearings fail then the pump shaft seal burns up and lets water into the engine. If he just let it sit with water inside the crank is probably wasted. You can bet the cyld and piston are ruin too if he rode it after the pump broke. If it was me I would buy that $278 shipped 39cc C1 engine on eBay. Probably cost that much to fix yours. Going to have to pull the pump shaft, bearings and seal.
I would pull the intake off first, when you look in at the crank you will know. That's why I hate the B1 China Blatas, you can't see the pump or the belt, I never new there was a problem till the engine over heated and lost power. It had 4 hours on a new bike. That's why I don't even want to start my total rebuild C1. I put SKF crank bearings & water pump bearings, w/ euro seals Dupont Viton Red pump shaft seal and new pump shaft.
Take a photo or too down the case intake hole.

Re: My new c1

That's what I'm scared of. Before my pull start gave out everything turned fine no issues. Hopefully I caught it before it did other damage but we'll see. Will do. Thanks bud.

Re: My new c1

That's why you need to look inside. How long did the bike sit?? Did the buyer tell you it runs?? It will run about 1 minute with out a water pump. I ran mine 15 or 20 seconds dry and it burnt the inside compression O ring. It could be damaged, cyld & piston all scratched up and still turn over easy. You might be lucky and it sat and the O ring drive belt was damaged and the rust is outer rust, If just a little water leaks into the shaft the bearings rust they wear out and seize and the pump pulley stops turning and the flywheel turns it around the stopped pulley till if burns and falls off.
On your starter cover, is it the Plastic Pulley that's bad?? I have seen a whole new C1 starter housings online for $25 or less. I bought a new pulley and rope from PB Parts I believe for $10. I have a new one, I bought when I had trouble, but I fix the old one before the new one arrived, so its a spare now, plus I still have the new extra pulley.
I am still in shock after 3 years of working on my C1. After I got my 50cc Banshee Sho & 2 GRC GP rollers and put my 39cc China Polini in one of them w/ 80mm Polini clutch housing and BZM 2 shoe racing clutch & 18mm carb, my avatar bike, don't really care much about the C1. I have so much money into it, don't want to sell it, but I might put in on the wall, lol.

Re: My new c1

He told me he owned it for 2 years where it sat. Never ran it. And that The guy he bought it from had raced it. He bought it as a bike get into pocket bikes but got into his other projects and so he neglected it. He was moving and that's why he had to sell it.

The pull start just quit recoiling the rope. The spring seams to be slipping off or something. I hate taking these things apart...

I found on eBay a new top end for $50 and a crank for $30. I can get a new pump and bearings for about $20 at pb parts. So I might be able to make it all work without buying a new engine. And if I do have to get one, I might just get an air cooled c1 engine from tsunami and not worry about the pump issues.

Re: My new c1

Oh I for got, you have to split the engine cases to take the water pump out, the second thing I hate about this engine. I would just pull the whole engine its 2 bolts, much easier to work one. My air cooled C1 is in a C1 frame from Boosted306, but it is heavier than the Cag type frame, but his engine has the old 2 rings 37mm piston and its highly modified.
My C1 spring came loose too, I believe, I ordered one and then fix it. I had to cut a slot and chisel the center screw loose. If the 2 hooks on the end of the spring are still good, you get leather gloves and wind the spring up tighter than the hole in the casing and drop it in then drop the pulley down and move it around till it grabs the outer hook.

Re: My new c1

How is boosted306 doing?

This week, I'm going to take the engine off and then just open up the crank case and inspect everything and order whatever parts I need from there.

Re: My new c1

Yeah, something happened in Sam's family, think he and his son was sick or something like that. He put the W/C frame, the modified engine ready to run, and C1 front forks and big belly exhaust in a box and shipped it to me and I got a set of new A2 wheels with slick tires for $55 and $20 S/H, and I had to put it all together but I think it is my fastest air cooled bike even in the C1 frame. Does you C1 have dual front brakes?? Anyway, you never know you might get off pretty cheap if there is not to much damage. Also, I would call Tsun and buy some Dupont Viton O rings for the head, there florocarbon, but much better than the China ones, and there not shown at there online store lol. They were $3 each, inner and outer, I ordered 3 sets, and they sent me 5 inners and 3 outers, for the same price, think they were trying to tell me something. I only have 2 inners and 1 outer left, lol.

Re: My new c1

Wow! Well that a/c c1 engine is suppose to put out 6-7 horses, 8 with a 17.5 dell otro. It's a killer engine. Yeah, my bike has dual disc in the front. K, I'll look into them. Is there a fee for calling tsunami since they're in Canada? Oh I forgot to tell you (and the rest of the sight) I met a guy through craigslist located in Portland that has a huge amount of euro bike stuff. Like $33k worth of stuff. He used to have a euro shop back in the pb heyday.
