Does anyone race in jeans?

I've been looking at race jeans but they only have padded knees. I plan to wear a knee/shin protector so I'm not worried about that. I'm more worried about my hip, thighs and butt if I go slidding across the pavement. Do they make any protectors like that? Has anyone gone down in jeans?

Re: Does anyone race in jeans?

It's better to use jeans while riding bike's. It is better to use high quality jeans like Pepe, killer, and ruf and tuf.

Re: Does anyone race in jeans?

I made some custom "pucks" out of some old knee pads I found in my garage, but to be honest, I'm not Valentino Rossi. I just wear jeans and take my chances.

Also I think a huge factor is "what" you're racing with...

i ride with jeans and shorts all the time sometimes even flip flops.but if you mess up and crash.your gonna get hurt.i mean you could stuff some small pillow on your side and back.but that would look wierd.but funny at the same time.but if you do get hurt.just shake it off. i mean the worse that could hapen would be badly scraped up face hands knees.basicly a scraped up body and mabey a broken arm or leg.or even collar bone.but i think you would have to be doing asomethign stupid on a pocket to cause enjeries like that.

Re: Does anyone race in jeans?

I can remember reading about an idiot that was attempting to set land speed records on a bike back in the 50's. He thought that the best way to set a record was to loose as much wind resistance as possible. He ran the Bonneville Salt Flats at 200mph wearing only a speedo bathing suit and a swimming cap! Yep, he wiped out at 200mph and slid for over a mile!

The worst part? He survived!

I don't know what's worse; falling off of a bike at 200mph while almost completely naked, or, falling off a bike at 200mph, while naked, on salt!

Re: Does anyone race in jeans?

A cheap set of second hand leathers won't cost you much.

The worst part about accidents on bikes is not necessarily broken bones when coming off the bike but actually having to remove the BURNT piece of clothing that get fused to the skin.

Trust jeans if you like, but a cheap set of leathers will protect you much more, i got a set for about $80US on ebay.

Well worth it!

Re: Does anyone race in jeans?

Yeah the draggin jeans seem quite good but a set of leathers have foam in certain parts to help the fall

Those jeans seem like they were just designed for dragging along the floor, but one thing you gotta remember is that you have to hit the floor first before you slide

I've ridden before in jeans but definitely would take my second hand set of leathers over them anyday

Wearing flippers are probably worse than not wearing shoes at all. If they get caught on the chain or if your toe hits the ground it could break your toe

Re: Does anyone race in jeans?

"with the change pocket on the left side for ease of use on your bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" go to walmart get some doubleknee dickies then to make them custom fit: a layer of foam tape on the fragile areas and cover them in ducktape.. while on you to make that custom biker fit and thats a hell-of-a-pant for around 30bucks

thats why my other post said to get the forcefield or bohn adventure underpants to wear underneath jeans.. the bohn or forcefield with draggin jeans is better than any set of leathers for pocketbike racing, just click on the links & check em out.. hell the CE level 2 armor protection on the forcefields practically covers every part of your lower body that would impact the asphalt. Now, i wear full leathers at the track on my real bike (CBR954rr) and wear the forcefield & draggin jeans combo when ripping the backroad mountain/canyon twisties.

BTW, I have two JR Speedmaster 1 piece leather suits & the "foam" on the hips & thigh inside aint worth shiz.. most track guys/racers will wear the bohn adventure "shorts" or other CE type armor under their leathers for real impact protection including a real back protector.. I know I do.

You can also get a pair of minimoto boots that fit better when on the little bikes, i have a set of Axo Slammer Constructor boots for the pocketbikes & XR Fiddy.
