If you dont have the $$ for the full suit or are looking for best protection possible for your kid google search for (Bohn crusader body armor) or (sixsixone compression suit youth). Both have chest AND back protection along with full forearm, bicep and shoulder pads too. The bohn mens small fits all the kids I have let try it on from 9 too 13 so its pretty expandible. The advantage is obvious; you can throw on a jean coat over it or it over what you are wearing and your upper body is covered all the way to your tail bone. The price is around $85 -100 for smaller kids sizes. The suits are great too my son wears Dainese leathers but hey he also puts on the Bohn suit under it when its race day. The body armor is being used by the best stunt people; snow boarders and ski crossers even motocrossers so I figured for the $ these give your kids a breathable safe extra cover. Hope it helps.

Come to think of it I think it would be cool if the guys in PB parts n bike started carrying these for the groms.
