*** & SNELL certification

I bought a new helmet for 100$ and was wondering about the safety certifications. I have helmet branded "tornado" it has a Snell and D.O.T sticker in the back of it but i was wondering if it could be fake. Is it possible that they make fake snell and D.O.T certifications?

Re: *** & SNELL certification

I doubt it but anything is possible. I have heard of fake ARAI lids being sold in the past but never lids being sold with fake certifications. It's possible the Tornado is just a spin off of another brand name so SNELL would not be able to respond right away without doing research if this is the case same goes with D.O.T. The best thing to do is to surf the web to see if there are any sites that conducted test on that particular lid or to see if there are any customer feedback.

I also have heard of fake D.O.T helmets and other stuff...but I highly dout that they would put the sticker on it if it isnt d.o.t. ....

Re: *** & SNELL certification

Yeah that D.O.T label looks a bit fishy because most or all D.O.T logos I have seen are in Black with parenthesis (D.O.T) something like that and doing some research the only helmet with the Tornado name I ran across were the KBC Tornado MX lid and a OBEC I think it was which looked like a pilots lid. It's possibly the seller bought a batch of lids without CERTs with their own name brand to sell off quickly to make a buck. Have you worn it yet and did you buy it online or in a retail location? On the packing Carton the lid came in there should be manufacturers info place of origin see if it has that. With that you should be able to research the company that produces those lids to find out if it legit.

Re: *** & SNELL certification

I bought it of some mega sale place close to my house for 100$. It didn't come in a carton they had a bunch of them laying neatly on a table. The only thing that may have had some info was a tag inside the helmet which i cut of because it was uncomfortable. The store is closed now so i can't go there and see their other helmets to see if it's legit or something, should i contact D.O.OT or something?

I think it's to late so just enjoy the lid for what it's worth.

For PB racing that lid should be sufficiant enough to with stand a low impact jolt. I would not recommend using that for a big bike though. It's most likely that lid is a single impact meaning one layer of foam shell on the inside. They way you can tell is to use your pinky finger and measure the thickness of the foam. The foam shell should have vent holes so just insert your pinky finger and if it measures up to the first knuckle above you finger nail then it's single and if it goes to the second knuckle then it's double

Re: *** & SNELL certification

At one point it only made it to the first knuckle but there around the center of the top and it went to the second. Oh ya and when i lifted the cloth it had some a real genuine M200 snell cetification.

I would say then not to worry about it and enjoy it. Don't get me wrong I am not stating to go out and test it by doing a face plant or anything but you should at least have peace of mind that it will offer protection for you if something does happen.

Re: *** & SNELL certification

As long as it still has the certification tag on the inside it should be good to go I would think.
