Question Synthetic leather?

Hi ive been looking for a jacket, and i found one that is decently priced, its not real leather but synthetic ( much like a school letter jacket i would presume ) is it any better than textile (or is it the same thing?) (it comes with armour too)

Im a fairly short guy, 5'8, 30" waist, 38" chest, 140lbs, should i get a small or move up to a medium.

Thanks
FSS

( its on ebay, it seems to be an alpine stars, but is there a chance it could be a copy? )

Re: Synthetic leather?

For a jacket with armor to do its job it has to fit as snugly as comfotably possible. Otherwise the armor just moves out of the way.

The same is true for a full leather suit. The first used one I bought from Ebay was a size too large and in crashes it would "squirm" and cause abrasions on my knees and elbows. I bought a suit that fits me correctly and have had many crashes without any problems.

Re: Synthetic leather?

I really suggest you go for the whole suit, either one piece or two piece. They are expensive but totally worth the money. I just bought an aplinestars racing suit. Superb quality. Joe Rocket is another good choice too.

If you don't wanna spend too much on it, go to Motorcycle Racing Suit and Leather Pants Motorcycle Jackets.

Re: Synthetic leather?

i'm not really looking for a full fleged race suit, just something that will add a little more protection than a t-shirt, i found one that i like, has hard armour in the elbow, shoulder, forarms, and back, but is textile, im not to worried about getting banged up on a little 50cc, ive laid down my ninja 250 a few times, and i can deal with the road rash, and its kinda obvious since i have a crap eye, an a ninja 250 (it goes put put) im kinda on a tight buget and full leather jackets start at 300+ but i dont do any major racing or knee dragging

Re: Synthetic leather?

You will be better off purchasing a good big bike textile jacket. They are designed to slide and not fail at low speeds. The synthetic will fail and burn through even on a crap eye.

Re: Synthetic leather?

Have you looked here? I got my complete suit for $239. It's real leather and seems very well made. It has armor and comes with sliders. They have jackets for reasonable prices as well. Only thing I wish I'd have done differently is get it with metal zippers instead of plastic.
