What do you suggest for gear

I've got a helmet and a Joe rocket 'phoenix jacket' . What else do I need. Not sure I'm the type to get a full suit. Any suggestions?

zocchi knee sliders, some good gloves and pretty much set. A full suit is always better though

Or you can always get a two piece suit.

I'm new to this as well.. while I'm waiting for my bike I wanted to get kitted out.

What about on your feet will trainers be OK or will I need boots? Do you just wear jeans with the knee sliders?

Thanks

A pair of textile riding pants, gloves, and sliders. Zocchi would be a great choice for sliders but if you cannot afford the Zocchi price then a set of MX FOX shin guards for $10-$11.00 should do fine for a short period. You may also want to look into a spine guard and some extra elbow protection. Although the Phoenix jacket provides a back protector and arm protection I found that sometimes they do not stay put so by wearing extra elbow pads under the jacket and a spine guard at least you will know when you slide on the pavement they will stay in place and do the job they are suppose to do but this is only a suggestion.

Trainers are fine but just make sure it will be a pair you will want to keep. What I did was just trimmed the laces down so they were not to long but long enough to be tied. Some riders like to do the Duct tape thing but it in my opinion gets a bit messy if the glue from the tape gets on your fairing. Jeans will only work for a short period as I found they do not hold up well in a long slide and burn through very easily so you may want to look into getting some textile over pants or something similar. I found the SHIFT Recon MX pants worked very well and fit right over my jeans plus you can adjust the waist. The sliders will fit right over the pants easily but I took the pants to my alteration person and had the legs tapered in so as not to bunch up from the slider straps.

To be honest not really on the SHIFT gear as I happen to get lucky and ran into a great deal at one of our local retail locations here in Cali Bay Area. If you like O'Neal stuff I can refer you to someone that may be able to help you out.
