How to drain Gas Tank?

Hey everyone, quick question.

Could someone please tell me the proper technique on how to drain and remove the gas tank? I would like to completely strip down the bike to repaint the frame, and this is the only way to do so.

Also, where is the VIN number located on our wonderful little bikes?

Thanks in advance

Re: How to drain Gas Tank?

You don't need to drain the tank to paint the frame.
To remove the tank:
1st remove the tail section (should be 3 bolts)
2nd turn the fuel petcock to the off position (horizontal)
3rd pull the gas line off the fuel petcock.
4th lift from the back of the tank forward and ease it towards the back of the bike and it should come right off the frame.

The frame vin location is stamped on the right hand side of the head stock and a sticker with that vin next to it.

The engine vin is stamped on the left hand side of the engine.

Hope that helps.

FWIW I rattle can painted my frame and it turned out well. Just remember that it's not durable and gas would eat the paint off. Poweder coating is the way to go but very expensive. Note all ground points too. Once you're done painting your frame, sand off the paint where you attach a ground wire.

Re: How to drain Gas Tank?

What Eddie said!

However, if you still want to know how to drain fuel from the tank?

1) Go to OSH and purchase a 2 - 3ft long 1/4" ID (Inner Diameter) vinyl "clear" tubing. 2' should be long enough and to add, cost is cheap

2) disconnect fuel line from pet-cok

3) insert one end of the "clear" tubing you purchased from OSH onto the pet-cok

4) insert the other end of the clear tubing into an empty gas can. Cut/trim hose to length if need be.

5) Prop open the gas cap.....this will help drain the fuel quicker

6) turn pet-cok to the "RES" postion and watch fuel drain into gas can.

7) when finished, turn pet-cok to the "OFF" position and remove vinyl tubing from pet-cok.

That's all there is too it
