What make is the CPI? I'd rather have a used Derbi GPR or an Aprilia RS50 for $2700.

it's a SCOOTER for pete's sake!!!!!

ya gotta be kidding right? it's a scooter for Pete's Sake!!!!

the YSR's/NSR's are real motorcycles. gearing, shifiting, accelaration, power band feels, etc.........

that black thing on the jpg is a just a sooped up scooter but a scooter all the same............forget about that scooter, invest your money in a good YSR or NSR.

sheesh I know plenty of people that would sell you a good, real good NSR50 in great condition for $2700.

I think $2699 is too much, I'd rather get a used GPR50 for the same price, but I think they've put too much into it for it to cost anyless, but since it's a 50cc scooter most people won't want to spend more than $2000 IMO.

it's simple Barry... now hear me out on this one. my wife would love this scooter. she is intimidated by motorcycles, she has no interest in shifting gears, clutches, or down shifting. she wants something simple (throttle and brake). she won't touch the other scooters out their because she says they look silly. if you can get past the fact that it's a scooter you see it actually looks pretty tough. i'm sure it has some technology poured into it for that price. and if this is the only way to get my wife to ride with me, then $3k it is...

camel, If you really want one for your wife I found this place in Orlando that sells them ( http://www.hot-ride.com/CPI%20GTR.html ), $2650 (I think thats how much it was), free shipping to a business or $65 to residential. Of course I just found this link while searching Yahoo so I can't vouch for this company but figured I'd pass it along... But I'd still like to see $1k came off the price

It is indeed everything that you all have said . A Street legal , large wheeled, auto transmission , scooter with "sportbike" style . They just hit the US and the $2600 price tag should go down as more dealers begin to carry them .

The machine seems to be a logical extension of the imported Pocketbike craze.

I think the next logical step would be for the major companies to come out with some street legal 50s like the YSR, TZR, NS-1... Don't get me wrong I'd try a scooter, Vento makes a 50cc scooter with 7.25hp, thats impressive to me, for a scooter. Hey, they race scooters in Japan(right along with the NSRs) and Europe.

two different philosophies on "2-wheeled transports"

ok, well. it appears we have here two very different opinions on the "2-wheeled" theme.

there is no wrong and there is no right...........just different.

Now, I am going to throw this out here and so be it. Personally, I've never appreciated any "scooter" type vehicle. with me it's a matter of black and white.........you either ride a motorcycle or none at all but never, never let your arse touch a scooter. just the way it has always been for me. And I'm sure I am not the only one that shares this belief.

I can see the "chic argument" for owning a scooter, but that's it. it doesn't go beyond that for me. Dunno, just something about a two wheeled "motorcycle-wannabe" vehicle that just doesn't cut it for me. Riding a 2 wheeled vehicle in a position like you are sitting at your computer typing is not "riding" for me but that's just my opinion and I have the right to express it. Same goes for HD's. Sitting in a "recliner position" on a motorcycle with your feets in front of you flapped out to the side with your hand position at the suicide bars above the top of the head level is not riding to me.

Sportsbikes are the model for riding..........not cruisers, not scooting, just road riding/racing.

I'm reading that the main issue with this ride is the CVT transmission ? I don't think that this will be very important to the pocketbike/midbike crowd. They are used to no gears . For those that feel a bit cramped on the X2s and X7s , this machine provides a nice stepup in that catagory. I remain sketchy on the price tag though. $2600 is pushing the envelope .. I wouldn't hesitate to try one out at just below $2000 .....

nope not interested.

Give me a DRD GPR50cc. You can add a 125cc race engine later on. Now that's the next logical step up from a pocketbike.

The ItaliaJet Dragstars are cool mopeds. Seems like they are trying to find a new market niche with this CPI.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this yet , but the GPR comes as a 50cc 2 stroke or a 150cc 4 stroke . Don't know the price of the 150 , but can only wonder how much fun a mini 150 could be

Hey, don't say bad things about scooters! :P In Spain (as the rest of europe) there are championship of scooters (promo50 and f1 70cc) i think they are a good racing school and really cheap! because there are a lot of scooter and spare dealers here in spain-europe. (Metrakit, Hebo, Polini. malossi, airsal...)

So, scooters are very popular and you can ride those from 14 years old thats a little crazy but a nice entry to the mobility stage.

In east Spain (Barcelona, catalunya) we have lots of karting circuits, and of course the GP track (Circuit de Catalunya) and there is a lot of enthusiasm of racing.

Well, i mean that anything that has 2 wheels (or more) is fun to ride, from a cheap cag, to a nice CBR.

I'll try to attach a picture of my 50cc scooter Honda X8R with this mods
polini 72cc top end
polini variator 3.5gr
kevlar belt
stiffer cluch springs
arrow exhaust
dell'orto 16 sha
a pair of donuts dunlop tt91

Now i bought another scooter (Gilera DNA 180cc 4 stroke) so now my sister aged 16 uses my x8r to go to high school (like a rocket lol)

Safe riding!

Cheers

òscar

I don't care what it is, if it's got two wheels I'll ride the $%!t out of it.

There's more than a few scooters over here that will destroy a YSR or NSR for that matter. As a matter of fact Suzuki's Street Magic is classified as a scooter, with a few mods that things a beast.

B'Allen: I may have to send you one of the scooter mags.

There was a scooter over that price called Italjet Dragster 180....that is 180cc of 2 stroke power in a scooter. It would beat most if not all of the "bikes" we talk about here.
