A YSR is a YSR is a YSR. doesn't matter what year you get one, just get one.
the 1987 version is identical to the 1991 version. they are all the same bike. nothing changed on the YSR's in the years Yamaha manufactured them.
As far as what's a Yerbi? well, it's a YSR frame with a Derbi motor. it's the best bang for the buck upgrade you can have so far. you get a brand new, say 2002 or 2003 model, engine and it get's popped into the YSR frame. the Derbi engine is a liquied cooled - 6 speed new technology engine where as the YSR's engine is a 15 year old air cooled 5 speed motor.
Derbi is a motorcycle manufactured in Spain. they make motard and street style GPR bikes. In Spain the derbi's come in 50cc and 125cc flavors I believe.
Here's a link to what a Yerbi spec contains.

check out that group. Team Calamari. they race in Cali where I was from. they are a good group to start with.
you can do just bought anything to the YSR. that's why it's such a great bike to start with.
here's another link of a fellow who stuck a 200cc Blaster engine in a YSR frame..........talk about koo-koo-la-koo!!!!
enjoy!
