You want to really rip!!!! Hit up Pierce. For the money to get that bike going in YSR trim, you would spend us much on a DERBI motor transplant. Pierce has a whole kit unless he sold it already.

Also you can all find us on bayareatwostroke *** com . Too bad you didn't live closer because I'd trade ya YSR parts for ink work.

Yeah I have a motor for a transplant for sure. Its just sitting around so I am up for any offers. Comes with everything that would be needed except a pipe and the mounting brackets.

Re: Project Bikes - Before / After shots and post mods on it!

Rather than dumping money to restore the YSR50 motor, use it towards putting in a Derbi motor. Pierce will hook you up. Any questions, just post away.

btw, YSR a/c 50cc motor is 7hp vs Derbi w/c 50cc motor is 9hp (stock). Add the Mikuni 24mm flat slide and Metrakit Pipe (SP) does wonders w/ correct gearing, of coarse

With this set-up (13/41 sprocket combo), my YSR....errr....Yerbi, does approx 65 mph.

A modified a/c YSR 50 motor tops roughly around 60 mph, if that. However, it being a/c (air cooled) , it has a shorter top-end life than that of a w/c (water cooled)motor........fwiw.

Though both top speeds are differ in 5mph, the acceleration to get there is the difference. The Derbi motor just pulls. Big bore kit (readily available from yours truly Pman) can get that thing really moving.

Manimal just has a 50 and 1st and 2nd gear really lifts the front tire off the ground on hard drag race type acceleration. I have a 72 on moy Motard and it has more torque. That's the only way I can keep up with Manimal in the tight twisity. What he makes up in corner speed, I need the bigger CC to help pull him back in.

Let's do another ride soon Manimal. I am going to hit Marsh with Ron his GSXR tomorrow morning.

Tbh, I have yet taken the Yerbi to the track. Therefore, since the conversion, it has only seen the street. Reason for not motivating myself to track it, is because I race/track an 04 NSR 50.

However, our recent street ride involved an 04 NSR 50 (gearing 15/42). My Yerbi pulls away from the 04 NSR 50. Altho', we did not drag race, it was only observation launching from a light to get up to speed or pace with the other bikes on the ride.

Being that you mentioned the local track allows practice, I say go for the Derbi conversion. If you are firm on racing a specific class within your local race assoc., do what you must to compete/race your YSR. We are only suggesting a long term option, installing a proven reliable water cooled 50cc motor.....that happens to be street ready (lighting coil).

Another option is to install an 04 NSR 50 motor (if available). The NSR is very competive and durable motor as well......it too has a lighting coil. However, keep in mind that you will need to fabricate your own mounting brackets....which is no problem if you know a local welder with a creative mind.

Pierce has a kit available, so no reason to fab your own. Unless you have the means and are up to doing your own fab work.

Re: Project Bikes - Before / After shots and post mods on it!

I've got a XR50 engine punched out to 106cc's via a BBR Pro kit. Later this month it'll get finished up with a 3 speed manual clutch conversion. The chassis its in is great for MX/Supermoto but not for roadracing.

After tossing around a bunch of dumbass ideas I'm leaning towards laying my hands on a YSR rolling chassis for an engine transplant. That way I can just swap the motor over from one chassis to another depending on what I'm doing.

Any Pro's/Con's to running a XR50 based engine in the YSR? Anyone you know done it?

Thanks!
- Erik

You'll be the first I've heard of transplanting one these horizontal type motors. I'm curious to know if there is enough room without conflict with the front wheel and any of it's travel.

Btw, I've only heard of the XR100 motor's being used. But unfortunately, have not heard whether or not the conversion was a worthy cause vs the power output of a 2-smoker (top speed wise).

Re: Project Bikes - Before / After shots and post mods on it!

Hey Man!

A good friend of mine who races in the Texas MiniGP series gave me some good info. He'd ridden a YSR/XR50 and said that under braking the front wheel hit the cylinder. It also made the weight balance really goofy.

Now I'm looking at either:
a.) Getting a midsize pocketbike rolling chassis that uses the horizontal engine layout. The frame, swingarm and forks would get braced. But then, I'd have to do that to a YSR chassis, too!
b.) Getting a spare XR50 frame (they aren't as tall as my Red Baron frame) and build a roadracer off of that. It'd be nekkid with no fairings, but there are a Hell of a lot of parts to choose from.

There are some definite pro's and con's for both. The midsize bike I don't know enough about in terms of spare bodywork, suspension parts, etc...

Two questions...

Does anyone have experience with its-titlesDOTcom in registering grey market bikes? & Is Yamalube better than other brands of 2-stroke oil or can I feel safe using another brand?

You can use any brand you want just make sure your mixture is correct. Brand differ on protection and smoke so read your labels and make sure you feel safe using the brand you are looking at.
