YSR question...

Sup... I really want a TRZ 250 or an NS 250... But the Honda's are probably out of the question cause they always cost an arm and a leg. So I can't really afford a TZR250 right now but I can probably afford a YSR50; so my question is can the TZR big wheels fit on the YSR50/80 frame and can the 250 engine be swapped in? ...This will probably a project for early next year or maybe not, but I'm still interested in knowing...

Thanks

How big of a wheel? the 17s? I dont think the bigger wheels would fit unless you swap out the forks. As far as the 250cc, I saw someone do it but it was an extremey tight fit. I remebered there were some frame support welds.

i think most people just buy a used RS 125 (honda) or TZ125 (yamaha) and just put 50cc or 80cc engines to race.

they come with everything you need and in the long run, would be easier and cheaper too.

good luck

oh! and your 250cc whould have plenty of room.

Hmm, sounds like I'm better off saving up for a 125 or 250.

I never thought about the 125's, I'll look into them... But isn't the RS a race only bike? I'm looking for a dual purpose bike, I also want it to be streetable. Are TZR125 and 250 are built on the same frame?

It's harder on the East Coast finding these imports, dam you Cali people

I have seen 17" wheels on bikes here in Japan. They normally change the inner fork legs. You could also go with an NS-1, it has 17" wheels and a CR80/85 motor is a direct swap and is pretty fast. The CR80 motors have lighting coils available for them.

I thought the NS-1 was 80cc? is it a 50?

There is a really clean one on ebay (Item number: 2497446524) in FL. With some upraged fairings they would look pretty good, nobody would know what it was.

----------------------------
Ok, sorry but I have more questions

Is there any one of these 3 that is better than the others? RGV250, NSR250, TZR250
Which one of those three is generally cheapest once it's been imported here?

----------------------------
Oh yeah, there is also a nice RGV250 on Ebay in TX (11 digit VIN) and a RZ500 in CA (17 digit VIN), both currently registered, I think they are both $4k and up

Thanks for the info guys.

That's pretty ironic I was on your website a few days ago and I was gonna email you guys and inquire about street bikes, guess now I know you do have them. When I'm sure I have enough money I'll definitely call you, thanks. So would the shipping from FL to NY be otrageous? By the way your 200cc OZbikes are tight!

ShadyHaitien: The NS-1's are 50cc bikes. None of the three bikes mentioned are better than the RGV, NSR or TSR. The RGV250 Gamma is a true monster and you couldn't go wrong with any of the NSR's.

The cheapest bikes Imported have been the TZR's. They're raced and are more abundant, the Japanese rarely ride them now. I've also seen a few good deals on NSR's in the states.

You can get bikes really cheap on mainland Japan. In Okinawa we pay quite a bit extra because the bikes are shipped down. The average going proce for NSR250's is $2500, and that's a fairly clean bike.

If you want to see some of the bikes that are for sale, let me know and I'll send one of our bike sales mags.

I wish I could get one around here for $2500, but I have found a guy offering me one for $3200 but I haven't seen it yet...

Man I'd love to see one of those bike mags, thanks!

A little confused... I found a very clean 95' NSR50, the guys is asking $3000, so to get to NY lets say total $3500, but I also have this guy with an MC21 93' NSR250 for $3200 (probably get it for $3k) about an hour away from my GF's house so no shipping needed... Is this the normal going rate for NSR50's? or is the NSR250 a really good deal?... Oh yeah I'll attach a picture of the NSR50 for sale

I've seen the NSR50's go pretty high through auctions and classified ads. With a bike that clean in the states the owner could name their price. I wouldn't pay that much for it without hearing it run though. Another important factor to consider is if it's titled. If it's titled he could really name his price.

I would check out the NSR250, all things definitely aren't equal. Only thing, the 250 is not that user friendly around town. It likes to run in the upper RPM range. My troop had one for awhile, and that's all he would talk about.

Check your PM

I really would prefer a 50... If I could find a NSR, NS-1, TZM or TZR for a decent price I'd buy it... Oh yeah, the NSR50 above is Bill of Sale only, no title.

I've seen some US registered NSR50 (90's) for sale. There are loops within the DMV system to get a grey-market bike registered in the states, but takes some effort and know how.

I know of a few importers here in Cali, and 1 in NY.

Check out Tony Ticeman's site/forum, YSR50.com, NYYSR.com for more info

Also in Cali, a price for a 250cc (NSR, RGV and/or TZ) can range from 3K +. RGV & NSR are more common to be registered.

Right now I'm dealing with this importer in CA who is looking for a TZR50 for me. What importer do you know of out here in NY? ...I've found a few threads about how people have registered their imported 2strokes, so I hope I have no problems. I'll check out ysr50.com and see if I can find any threads about it there. Thanks for the info.

The contact for NY is on the site NYYSR.com. Within this last year he has posted several grey-market bikes for sale.

Have you checked out the Cagiva Mitos? They look like the 996/998 Ducati's, there have been plenty of them popping up in Mainland Japan, decent prices also. I have to check one out up close and personal (bend a few corners). I'm hearing good things about them. If I get my hands on one, I'll let you know.

Never heard of them until now, but I just checked out thier website, they look pretty nice. But it looks like they don't sell them anymore over here: http://www.cagivausa.com/mito125/2001mito125.html
