More information would surely aid in a more accurate estimate. Check on ebay and see what they're going for. There honestly isn't a going rate for a YSR.

What ysrelement said.....

I was lucky to pick up a "fully" prepped "stock" YSR racer with only 3 races on the motor, no title and equipped with a Fox shock for 1K. Tho' you may not be as lucky. I could have easily cleaned the bike up and sold it for $1500.

I would say, and again, depending what mods it has, typically spend somewhere between 1K - 2K. Anything over 2K it better have a clean title or equipped with an 80cc motor.

Let us know what after-market goodies it has and/or class set-up, i.e. Stock, Super Sport or Super bike?

The condition over all and/or motor is a deciding factor too.....in need of a rebuild...whether it being a top-end, main bearings or both.

If so, It would be fair to offer a reasonably low price of what the person is seeking.

So let us know.

I picked up an 88' YSR50 for $325 a while back, it is in need of a new topend. Unfortunately, I haven't got around to fixing it lately as I have no time for it. But, I'm going to take a course on motorcycle mechanics and restoration at the local tech school here and use the YSR as my project. It says you have to supply your own bike so, what better bike than a YSR, afterall I'm not going to leave one of my Duc's up there.

My 87' I got as a gift and will never, never sell it. Amongst all my bikes it still remains as my favorite.

The GSXR 50 is the best part of the find here .Not that fast stock but very very rare.Only 600 brought to the us.With a little work the GSXR is in the same league as the YSR and the chassie is light years ahead stock.I know I have had a GSXR for 17 years and had and raced a YSR .Owned both during the same time and did lots of comparisons.YSRs are great, but the GSXR is rare and the build quality is second to none.Compared to the current pocket bikes ,yhe YSR and GSXR are real motorcycles and the others are toys.Let us know if you get either .If you get the GSXR e-mail me and I can give you some tips.I wound up racing my GSXR in the modified class and won some times, they are good bikes and have lots of potential.

Did you do a motor swap? As far as I knew the Gag 50's were 4 stroke bikes. I have a hard time believing that a 4 stroke 49cc can keep up with a 2 stroke 49cc.

The parts availability for those bikes can't be good, as you see them selling on ebay alot with modified ysr parts on them. I could be wrong because, I've never owned one or attempted to find parts. As a street bike I'm sure it would be fun but, as a racing bike without a motor swap I just think it would be a dog.

Yoshimura made a whole bunch of parts and I bought them all back in 1988.
But first of all the YSR (being a 2 STROKE has more overall potential than a 4 stroke GSXR.Plus the YSR is A 5 speed and the GSXR is a 4.But back then the dealers could not hardley give then away.I wound up with it (new)and decided to see what could be done with it .It took lots of money and tons of machine work to get it to run like a modified (mildly)YSR but it was different and that made it fun. They even let me race it in the stock class(1 time). No you wont out run many YSRs and no NSRs but they are rare and I did have some success racing it .I can say this I ride it every week ,have for 17 years and still love it.Put it this way,I owned 1987 Ysr and this GSXR .I sold the YSR in 1989.Sorry now I sold it but I am glad that if I had gotton rid of one of them I am glad I kept the GSXR.

No i did not do motor swap(would have been easier and cheaper)Yes the parts availibilits sux.May not be able to get parts at all any more .And I have never seen them on e-bay with YSR parts, dont know of any that would fit.Yes it is a good street bike and no most of them are not good racing bikes .But mine is 78cc which helps some.Stock yes a dog but still very RARE and built great. This is to take nothing away from a YSR at all I love them and am looking for one of a NSR now.But when was the last time anyone here saw a GSXR much less a nice one.Buth are great bikes I just think the GSXR never got its due because it is a 4 stroke.

I normally like buying bikes that are titled. Since i'm in cali its a bigger hassle getting it titled and street legal. If its gonna be a track only bike then it wouldnt be a problem. In so cal usually a good condition ysr with mild mods & title usually go for 1200-1500. No title usualy drops it below the 1000s. Pretty much a fully modded and race prep bike with title can be well over 2500. People here are willing to pay more for a clean bike with title.

Photo,

$1200 is not a bad price and it having a Fox shock is a plus too. If you plan on having the bike shipped to you, try to negotiate the price, tho' i don't think the guy will budge much.

Whats the history on the motor?

and what other goodies does it have, i.e. TCR triple clamp, fork brace, SS braided brake line.......etc.?

If you get the bike, I suggest to ship the shock to TCR or do it locally and get your Fox re-charged (if not done already) before you start your race season.

Let us know what the condition is, so we can help getting your race season started on a healthy motor/set-up.
