controller/battery question

i have an xp-700 with three 12volt-12ah batterys in it and a stock controller. i want to upgrade the controler to a 48volt 100amp controller but im not sure if i would need to add another 12volt-12ah battery or if the 48 volts on the new controller is just a "maximum."
anyone who can answer my question id appreciate it.

Re: controller/battery question

You would need 48v for a 48v controller. The controllers have an under voltage cut off so it would not work with less then what its made for.

Re: controller/battery question

You won't be able to put the key between the battery wires becuase it will slow down the current with the smaller wires. For the charger, you can unplug the battery and put the prongs in the socket, charge it, and then unplug the charger, and plug it back to the controller.

Re: controller/battery question

thanks, and one last question.... how many volts do you think i could put into the stock 36volt 700watt motor with out it frying.... i want to put another 12volt battery which brings it up to 48 volts and a +5 kit which would add onother 7or 8 volts i beleive..... do you think thats too many volts for a 36volt motor? and would a 48 volt controler still work with it? the stock 36 volt controler works with 36volts and a +5 kit so i figure its not too much different.... thanks,

Re: controller/battery question

Your engine might fry, since you're adding an extra 20 volts to it... I would not go above 48 volts on a 36 volt motor. Your controller should be able to handle the +5 kit, but I doubt the motor will be able to. Just get the 48 volt controller, the extra battery and use the 36 volt motor. Since you're only 14, you'll fly on that bike

Re: controller/battery question

^^^^ Well said. I would definitely NOT get the +5 kit. A while ago I got it hoping it would give me more speed but it only slightly increases it for a short amount of time and it destroys whatever battery pack you plug into it. Since your 14 I am guessing that you weigh less than 120, so you will go around 20-25, which is pretty fast while having more reliability than 48v and a +5

Re: controller/battery question

yeah.... i already go twenty on the stock bike and along with the sprocket upgrade im adding on.... im hoping to see 30. the only problem for me is finding a good controller.... i cant find a single controller that is 100-300 amps and is 48 volts.... since im adding the sprocket upgrade, my acceleration will be a bit slower so i want the higher amp controller to boost my torque back up and maybe add a few mph too. wen my bike is finished i wish i could race it somewhere but theres nowhere around here that races pocket bikes or i could destroy everybody elses bikes with this monster im trying to build.... eventually im gonna get 1000-1200 watt motor and see topspeeds of 35 im hoping. and the torque would be crazy on it too. thanks for your help.
