Re: Which is faster?

for the $ per 10mph gained, electric all the way

take in a point a $3000 Full open gas 15+hp pocketbike

now make a $3000 electric with the right phone calls for the best parts custome made and well you could make a 30-45hp electric made for mini GP racing(NOT JUST DRAG RACING!) and well since we dont have no one in the open bikes on this forum intrested in such an indever......shiooooooot, I would make the trip just to help in such a bike..I almost made one last year till the japan racing rules changed and they started to just run super class bikes more then mini's...that takes the art out of it and I took a 4month break from all this and messed with my other inventions for a bit to get over the greef of a lost chance at a VERY large lump of cash for such a high risk high speed race(these races are so crazy most are private to large corps and high ranking racers with no relised videos and no picture waver just to walk in the gate)

Many people in L-EV's (light Electric's) dont even know how big the sport is outside the U.S., shoooot for a long time I thought 3hp motors were stupid power...but well we all learn more as we progress and now I know who I have to talk too to get custom wound and custom cast motors with brush plate from motors 3 time it's size installed loaded with ultra soft brushes for 1000amp hard starts producing insane power and RPM's!!!!!

ok, all that said....understand a 30hp pocket bike under 50pounds will and have gone over 85mph already...show me a full open class gas bike that can go past 50mph(dont even say they can go faster then that, because ther engines were never made for top end power so after it hits 45mph a gas pocket bike looses power no matter what the kind or make of the gas pocket bike.....
understand?

Re: Which is faster?

Alright. So would it be worth the money to convert my current gas bike that can do 30 w/o mods into and electric bike? Will I get a better acceleration and top speed? For under $1,500?

Re: Which is faster?

it is a mid bike right? 49cc if so look at the SEVO bike 2 years back on this forum....if you ask me, his bike was complex because he had to pass tech inspection for REALDEAL EV drag racing.. but you could make a simpler one for half of what he had in his today

Stock for stock, i'd say the gas bikes are faster. If you are talking about making a custom bike, then i'd say the electric. The reason being is the 50 and 125 cc engines can only handle so much abuse. Also with all the new lithium batteries on the market with these outrageous power numbers, like the a123 lithium batteries they are rated at 3000 watts per 1 kg in weight. So 10 kg or 22 pounds of batteries and you are talking 30,000 watts of power, which is 30+ HP.

It would be extremely hard to compete with that kind of power if you did the bike with the right motor and controller, for any gas powered mini bike. That would easily push the bike past 80 mph, and 0-60 in 6 seconds or less i would say.

Re: Which is faster?

get your batteries first and build off from there...
then get the controller and then the motor!
the motor should be the last thing on your mind in the beginning

also, dont just look at a electric motor site and see a 2hp motor and say well thats weeeeek, NOPE...that is "RMS" or "constant power rating" given the fact you have enuff amps to make that kinda power....but really some of them 2hp motors can peak out at over 15-25hp under hard starts from dead stops.... LoL this is when you put a sticker on the side of your bike marking how much power it is rated constant for and when a open class gas bike asks you to race seeing a 2hp sticker on your bike and when you line up and he hits the gas for the grean flag, well lets say you will be 20ft already in front of his slow 15hp wanabe monster noise maker......people in the stands would be say'n stuff like "holly cow" and "dammmm he got smoked)

Etek Brushed motor, $450.
Logisystems Controller 48 volt 800 amp $300
Batteries: A123 lithium are best. Other choices are hawker genesis, SVR.

You might go over your 1500 dollar limit with the a123 batteries, hawkers will work pretty well though. I'd spend the little extra though and get the A123 batteries, nothing compares to them.

Here you go: Electric Motorsport EV Parts :: Etek Motor

Scroll down to the " Etek RT " , it is a little more expensive but it is more powerful and can take more power. Rates at about 20 peak HP, but can probably do more.

Re: Which is faster?

Nevermind guys. I told my dad what I wanted to do, and he said that it was a stupid idea. It's a waste of money, etc... I would personally love to go 70+ mph on a little thing like that, but, with my dad the way he is, he just will not allow it. Sorry for wasting your time .
