Re: MX650 mods?

WOW - thank you! My Son will be so happy once I get this thing finished. We have had the parts for some time but I didn't know what to do with the controller. So the "old" controller had 5 wires and the new one only 3 - is that normal or do I add two of the other wires to the 3 to make 5? Sorry - I'm not smart about this stuff - just a single Mom trying to make her 10 year old a happy boy.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!
Hope

Like I said, you do not need the yellow and one of the black wires at all. Red goes to red, black goes to one of the blacks, and blue goes to green. If this doesnt work then switch the black from the controller to the other black on the throttle.

Re: MX650 mods?

Simple question: I want to get my daughter an MX650. I don't want to mod the motor -- just give it a little more torque.

First, is the 90T currie sprocket still the only option to increase torque? If so, where is the best place to order it?

Will I need to modify the chain to accommodate the new sprocket?

Lastly, what will the top speed of the MX650 be with all stock except the 90T rear changed?

In other words, I only want to change out the rear sprocket for more torque and I don't care if it only goes 15MPH after the mod. What parts do I need and where can I get them?

Thanks

Re: MX650 mods?

The 90T sprocket can be had cheaply at All Electronics | Electronic and Electro-Mechanical Parts and Supplies at Discount Prices, but it is not a direct fit. The center hole has to be enlarged and four holes have to be drilled around it in the same pattern as the stock sprocket in order for it to fit.

The chain will also most likely have to be lengthened aswell. The MX650 has a chain tensioner, but I doubt even with it removed that you wouldn't have to add more links to the chain.

I don't know about the new top speed, but it will definately be slower.

Re: MX650 mods?

Higher up in this thread there was discussion about the (somewhat mythical) 900W MY1020 motor. I found one on craigslist and was wondering if this would directly replace the 500W as discussed before (no frame mods). Scooter Motor - 900 watt - 36 volt -------. It seems to me the end cap is too big (too big to even replace with the 500 end cap). If anyone has experience with this motor will it indeed fit with the caps swapped? Also, I've heard you can adjust the timing on the 900. Would this still be possible even with switching with the 500 cap? thanks

Re: MX650 mods?

Anyone know where I could get a little LED light like the one in the picture? I tried to PM 48voltmx650 but his mailbox was full. All the bike ones I found are too big for that location on a MX500/650.

Re: MX650 mods?

My son has an MX500 can I buy the 24v version of the 500watt motor and run it at 48v using the stock controller?
Or do I have to upgrade the controller?

If I want to save money can I overvolt the stock motor to 48v with the stock razor mx500 controller?, or will it fry?

Re: MX650 mods?

If you don't care about initial acceleration as much as top speed, then the 24v motor at 48v on the 36v controller should work great. May be a bit much mph for a young kid, but I'd give it a try. Undo it if you find its too dangerous for them.

Chances are the controller has 60+v components which may even be ok up to 54v nominal, but remember your lvc will not kick in. If it does fry, you're only out like $40 for a new 48v controller anyway.

The motor should (probably) take the rpm ok. Motor heat should be ok with a kid on flats, long stints with hills or adults (or adults on hills) might hurt it. What kind of motor is it.. an my1020 with vent holes? Anyway if it goes, you're out what, $50 for another..

Re: MX650 mods?

I just added 48v to a stock mx500. It has slower acceleration than stock now. I would have thought the increase voltage would help low end.
Is razor going to make the mx2000 anytime soon?

Re: MX650 mods?

Did you put a new controller on it so you could use those extra volts/amps?

Re: MX650 mods?

Why wait? Read up and build yourself an MX2000 if you really want one.

What exactly did you do to your bike? Maybe someone can figure out how to help.

Re: MX650 mods?

Anyone know how to connect a yk42-4 controller to the charging port of the mx500. The port (thing you plug your three prong charger into) has two little red wires that come off of it and go into the stock controller. The yk42-4 does not have a port for these two wires, can I just attach one to the negative bat post and one to a + bat post?

Re: MX650 mods?

Yes you can wire the charge plug directly to your battery pack. Your controller will not auto-shutoff when you charge, like it otherwise might have done. No big deal though, just make sure you turn the bike off after riding it.

Re: MX650 mods?

Mx500 with stock motor and controller with 48v(added a 12 12ah) cuts out when gets to about 12 mph. Might be safety feature in controller.
Anyway to override or just get a new controller?
If I get him a new controller should I get the Model YK42-4
or the Model LB37.
