Re: MX650 mods?

OK, so I put in a 5 HP Go kart engine into my MX 650; I removed all electricals and put the engine where the electric one was with heavy modifications (took me about 5 hours of welding). It is pretty sweet, got upto 46 m.p.h. let me know if you want me to post some pics.

I don't know a specific time. I rarely ride the bike from full charge to dead so it's hard for me to gauge.

Spyder - all the information you need is contained earlier in this thread or in one or two other MX500 / MX650 threads that are on the board.

There is a ton of information here to help you with what you want to do. Just take some time to read through things.

Re: MX650 mods?

why would you replace the 650 watt motor you already have with a smaller one?

I would do this becuase right now the motor in it is 36 volt 650 watt, and if you get a 24 volt motor it will overvolt the motor causing the bike to go around 23 and 24mph instead of 17mph

Re: MX650 mods?

Hi Guys,
I just wanted to let everyone know what I’ve been up to. I’ve upgraded my Son’s MX500(MX1200) again…
If you read back in this thread, you may know I had upgraded my Son’s MX500 to a 1200w motor 48v 100a controller with 12ah batteries. It was a great upgrade, be we have been putting up with a few issues ever since. Whenever my Son would nail the throttle from a stop, we would get some engine stumble, “Tah.. Tahh Tahhh” before it would go like normal. We also noticed the battery life was only like 15-20 minutes, when he was riding hard..
Ok, so up to the latest upgrade. I tore the bike down, and rebuilt it. This time I stuffed in 2X the batteries (2 12v & 2 36v) making it 48v at 24 amp hours. This required me to slightly notch out the upper front frame brace – to make the last 12v battery fit, but I got it all into the standard engine area. I then added 3 inches of lift to the rear suspension, with a lift kit bracket I fabbed. The results are amazing. The bike sits higher, There is absolutely no more engine stumble when using the 100a controller, he can ride it hard for 35-40 min, and the thing will pop wheelies to no end - with our 90t rear/ 11t front sprocket setup (8.2:1 ratio). The thing has so much torque, it’s literally amazing! Even with me(175lbs) and my buddy(250lbs) the bike goes like a rocket out of the hole!
My son was next interested in top speed, now that we have the power. So, I set it up with a 80t rear / 22t front sprockets = 3.64:1 ratio. We took his bike to a straight safe closed road, and let it all hang out… 42MPH top speed !!!!!!!!! Check out our latest vids on youtube. Search for “mkroberge”
It was really cool seeing how fast it would go, but after that one speed outing, we are going to switch back to 80t rear/11t front stock gears. These bikes are really “toys”, and by no means should be going this fast on a regular basis.. *By my calculations, the 80t/11t combo should give us a top speed of ~22-24mph, with plenty of low end torque.
See my attached photos of my latest upgrade

Re: MX650 mods?

Done !

I finished the first world Razor brushless 1050W with 48V 20Ah LiFePo4 battery (li ping) !
max speed:
about 50km/h for 60kg adult charge (31miles/h for 130 pounds)
On photos you can see the cycle analyst too.
48V20Ah LiFePo4 battery feet well cuting high battery support and puting charging connector and on/off switch uppon the tank.
Under the tank you can see brushless controler.
As it (with cyclone 1050W kit) the speed is big but, if not necessary, it will be better to have a larger rear gearing for best acceleration (but, like this, it's quite good).
On the first photo, you can see one empty hole below. The next hole (not empty one) at the right is the place for "chain carrier" (I don't know if it's the good traduction).

Re: MX650 mods?

Hello Everyone!

I also just completed working on my 2-MX 1000, 60 Volt, Fan Cooled Monsters! It took me a little longer to complete because I had to do the exact same thing to both bikes so they are identical twins.
I race these bikes on a Go Cart flat track against my brother and girl friend. The track has lots 90 and 360 degree corners so I need all the bottom end I can get! I am about a 150lbs and as I am moving out of the corners I can pull wheelies! My next venture with these bikes cutting off the front forks and adding 2-12" shocks to each bike so I can do some serious jumping! I am also going to add battery regulating "fuel Gauges" and volt gauges to them.

FEATURES:
-60 Volts
-60 Volt Control Modules
-1000 Watt Motors
-2-5" Aluminum Cooling Fans With There Own Seperate 4.5AH Batteries With Seperate ON/OFF Switches
-12" Rear Shock
-3" Handle Bar Lifts
-7" Aluminum Kick Stand Extenders
-3-12 Bulb LED Headlights On Both Bikes
-Tail Lights with 12 LED Bulbs
-Custom Graffics That Reflect At Night

Re: MX650 mods?

Those builds look SuhWEET!! Nice job. Travis, what kind of rear shock is that? Was it a direct bolt on,or did you have to mod the braces? Can you detail the motor mount process for me? I'd love to do something similar to my mx500.

Re: MX650 mods?

Hey GoFaster,

I am glad you like my setup's!

The Rear shock I purchased at TNC Scooters and it was a direct bolt on!!! I do have to inform you that the shock is 12 inches high so you are going to have to raise the front end up otherwise the rear end to front pitch is going to be uncomfortable...

As far as the motor goes I did not do any welding just cutting and bolting. I did have to notch out of the swing arm a decent amount but the steel swing arm is strong enough to handle the cuts just don't go to crazy, you have to have a lil' common sense when doing this. I have been jumping mine and everything and have had no problem!

It is to difficult to describein detail how I mounted and bolted it but to sum it up vaguely after you notch out the swing arm enough to fit the motor just use some metal brackets to bolt the motor to the swing arm.

48voltMX560, the rake on the bikes looks funny, do you think you will have any problems down the road folding the frame?

Re: MX650 mods?

I think the fork is too heavy and with poor quality.
Did anyone tried to change it yet? Which model have you chosen and what were the results ?
Do you have any idea to improve the comfort?

Thanks
