which would give me better performance

a 36 volt 1000 watt motor over-volted to 48 volts or

a 48 volt 1000 watt motor with 48 volts?

Re: which one is better?

They would probably be pretty similiar, but the 36v motor over volted to 48v would be cheaper but it would over heat faster. The other option would be more expensive but would be more durable. I would go with the 36v motor and 48v of power.

Re: which one is better?

if you overvolt a motor, you crank up the rpms, resulting in you going faster. But as NecessaryEvil said, it would also heat faster. If I am not mistaken, the 36V 1000Watt motor at 48 volts will spin faster than the 48V motor at 48 volts. Remember: Watts = Voltage x Amperage. Using simple math, the motor would need 20.8 amps. Your batteries might not last long.
