Razor MX350 battery problem? and possible battery mod

Late last year my 6yo daughter MX350 had its battery charger crap out. I should have bought one at the beginning of the summer but I just didn't think of it. I finally bought one.

The bike was left on and I thought - uh oh. As I feared, it doesn't seem to charge. The lights will light up but I just hear a clicking. I suspect that it is just the battery. Does that sound right?

If it is the battery I am considering changing it to a 36v battery. (Or just buying her a PW50.) I can't seem to find any instructions on switching it to 36v. I would need decent instructions unless you just buy 3 12v batts and wire them up. Even then I would need a suggestion on which batteries to buy.

Thank you for any input. I have searched and not come up with anything. Plenty for the MX500 but my girl is tiny. She can ride the MX500 but her toes barely touch and I am not comfortable with that.

On the 500 you can drop the forks thru the clamps or install smaller wheels. I've done that to one of our bikes before.

If you can figure out how to go 36v or more.. its worth it. You can try ebay or zbattery for cheap sla's. You don't really want to lipo a kid's bike.

Another cool thing about a kid's bike is you can get away with more volts and the same size battery pack. They are so light and typically don't ride long distances, so you can skimp on the amp hours. Say a 36v 9ah battery instead of a 24v 14ah battery.

Its amazing how fast a 40 pound rider can accelerate with say 500 watts, and that same bike will barely get me going.

Would it make a clicking noise if the battery was shot? When I turn the throttle on your just hear a click. That is my first hurdle.

It could. The lvc might be kicking in when the bats see a load. Hit each battery individually with a DMM and see what going on, thats an easy 1st check. It could be just one cell has gone bad inside one of the batteries.

If they all check out on voltage you can do a load test by connecting a light bulb to each battery to make sure the voltage stays steady. Sometimes the voltage will look ok at first but it will drop after a few seconds powering a bulb. Like its acting like a 12v 500mah battery instead of the 12ah battery or whatever it is. If you don't have an auto bulb you can use a household incandescent bulb.
