Exclamation Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket Problem: Brakes or Rims?

Hi everyone, new to this community so hopefully I'm posting correctly where this belongs...

Right out of the box (Walmart purchase), my MX500 had some issues. The front and back brake calipers rubbed. After adjusting I can prevent them from rubbing but then there's severely poor braking. I have tweaked and tweaked - little this way/that way with all aspects of the brakes and still, I get rubs or poor braking.

I am now wondering if the rims are warped and if so, will replacing the rims or calipers (or both) from Razor even remedy this problem?

Has anyone else experienced this? Advice? Solutions? Alternative products? Many thanks in advance.

This problem happend to me. What side is it rubbing on? if it is rubbing on the right side of the brake pad, take the washer out on the left side. Or the opposite. Then tighten it, until there is minimal rubbing on the brake rotor.
This is the way i fixed the problem on my bike.

Thanks for the reply. I will try your suggestion and post back my results.

One more question: Did/do you get a wobble while on pavement at higher speeds - ex. 10+ MPH? (I'm really nervous this bike came with warped rims.)

Thanks in advance!

no never had a woble...... um in the tool kit you got, there's a spoke tightener. I read in the instruction booklet that you need to check the spoke tension and if it is to loose you must tighen it 1/2 a turn or something (check book). This might help you with the woble. If it still does that, call razor, im sure that they would send you a new one.

Re: Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket Problem: Brakes or Rims?

There are 2 long black spacers and 2 slim washers for the front wheel. I tried removing 1 spacer, then the other and didn't get better results, darn. I think the calipers &/or the discs are poor quality in general but it really looks like I got a bum deal: Right out of the box, 2 warped wheels (rims).

Spoke tension is a great suggestion, thank you. But upon inspection, it looks like all the spokes are properly tightened.

So now my question is to you and anyone else who has looked closely, when you spin the wheels fast... do you see a warp/wobble?

Can anyone assure me this is a freak thing? I don't want to purchase or RMA new wheel assemblies from Razor only to learn that it's just a factory defect. And if it is a factory defect or just low quality, what alternatives do I have for replacing these?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket Problem: Brakes or Rims?

Confirmed with Razor, this is a factory defect of both wheel assemblies - specifically, the rotors (disc brakes). For those within your 90 day warranty, get your replacements ASAP.

I'm not sure if the replacements are any better but they did at least acknowledge it was a known problem so I would think their part replacements would resolve the issue.

I'm SOL, unfortunately - stuck having to buy both. Thanks for your input electricbike.
