110cc x7 Sparkless

I'm trying to find out what's wrong w/ my bike. I know that there is no spark when I try to start it. I press the electo starter and it just makes that sound where you're trying to start it but it doesn't start up. I had a feeling that it's the spark but I'm not exactly sure why it isn't sparking. What are some ways to test or diagnose this problem. Oh and I almost forgot...I just recently got a new NGK spark plug

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

Sounds like you are jumping to conclusions. You need to test for spark, take the plug out, leave it in the boot and resting on the cylinder head (it has to be grounded) and now crank the bike over and see if you see the spark. Is the engine turning over well? Have you tried starting fluid?

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

if you find you have no spark, check over you coil and wiring. See if your coil is grounded and your wiring is correct. If you have another coil by hand, try it out and see if it is the same results.

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

Well before I posted this I did try to see if there is a spark by removing the plug from the cylinder and leaving it connected to the boot and then I pushed my electo starter but no spark on the plug. I think it might be my stator or my coil. It has to be either or. But I'm not sure yet. When I test my stator/magneto tomorrow I'll probably get better results and I'll hopefully be closer to figure out why my bike isn't starting.

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

Oh and one more question. When you guys say ground the coil do you guys mean that the ignition coil is mounted onto the frame? If so then I'm pretty sure I have it mounted correctly. Anyone have any pictures of ignition coil mounting?

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

Holy crap man!!! what did you do.....lol j/k...After looking at your pics I now know why you dont have spark...If you would of posted them sooner youd be running already

First off you have the CDI box connected into the gearshifter readout plug...Look in the harness for another 6 wire plug plug like it with 5 wires...a blue/white stripe,,,yellow/black stripe,,,,,black/white stripe,,,,solid green,,,,black/redstripe wires in it...Thats the CDI plug...I have it edited in your photo

The coil looks like what da heck put it on...I dont see a green ground lug going to the coil body attachment screw coming from the harness.........It seems to be going to the rectifier mount screw;-thats wrong

After you make the corrections your bike will have spark again............

Below is what we mean by grounding the coil good...........Peace

Thank you CAM for being alive! hahah. Now my bike will be alive. I think all I need now is carb tuning. What's the stocker tuning for the carb?

So I fixed what you told me to fix. What do you think? These are only temporary. The washers will come soon! haha. I got a nice blue spark but now I think I need help with the carb. Here are the pictures:

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

Yep thats the ticket.......Try removing the gas cap to check that theres gas in the tank then try opening up the floatbowl purge screw on the side of the floatbowl and see if the bowl has fuel and that a descent interrupted flow comes out of the black tube when the screw is loosened.....Check for that and get back to us with the results...

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

alright so how do I fix the petcock from leaking gas. It's killing me. The petcock leaks when its on but then then it's off there is no leak.

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

Wheres the petcock? Is it the type thats built into the carb like the ATC 125's?Your o-ring may be stuck to the knob and stretches out when its "on" causing it to leak out

If so youre gonna have to drain the gastank and take the two screws that hold the plate and take it apart to see whats broke or stuck and fix it.Dont lose the wavy pressure washer..If it cant be repaired you can do the petcock mod thats done to the cag carbs with jb weld and eliminate it altogether and get a 1/4" shutoff from Ace hardware or get the repair parts through bike bandit ........

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

It's not the carb petcock but the gas tank petcock that leaks when it's switched on, on.

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

You can take it apart with the two screws to see why its failing and if it cant be fixed you can do the same mod to that petcock too by removing it from the tank and then remove the petcocks knob and inner parts and fill up the void with 5 minute JB weld and when the jb cures you drill the fuel passage through with a 3/16" or 1/4" drill bit and slap it back on.............

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

Alright so this morning I fired up the bike and it started. I had to put the choke on tho. But then when I put the choke off it died but it would stay on if i steady the throttle. I think I need to fix my idle screw? What do you think cam?

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

It could be a bunch of things but the best things to start with is checking for an air leak and a fuel restriction

If theres no air leak or fuel restriction try richening the a/f screw 1/2 turn and setting the idle speed to 1500 rpms...

If those work but the bike still doesnt run right you can try lowering the needle on the c-clip on the barrelslider and tweaking the a/f screw and setting the idle..

If that still doesnt give a good result you may have to clean the carb or you may have to reset the float a tad richer even rejet the carb for the season...

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

These air cooled motors can take a while to warm up, if you are somewhere where the weather gets really cold and it is like 30-40 degrees when you start it then it will be quite a bit longer before you can shut the choke off. Also in the cold weather the air is much denser and therefore the bike needs to be richened up with the air/fuel mixture screw (I run a 158 jet in winter on my dirt bike vs a 155 in the summer)

Re: 110cc x7 Sparkless

Hey yea like Bart said, my bike needs the choke to start nowadays as it is cold outside. Leave it running with the choke on for a little longer than usual then see what happens. (thats what I do)
