Which is better? Mods or new engine?

Which would be better modding the stock 110cc with BBK, carb, etc. or going with fast trails 140cc engine kit? wanting to max out maybe 70 mph if i ever wanted to but basically a fast strong running engine.

Well if you have the cash I'd go ahead and get the 140cc. And then get a 26mm mikuni, 16/28 gearing, and an hp uni foam air filter. That should get you to 70 mph maybe more depending on your weight.

Well 140cc is probably the best choice BUT It would really cool if you could mod your 110cc. I and other members would surely help. A 114cc big bore kit, ported and polished v2 head, 26 - 28mm mikuni or keihin, 14/22 gearing or whatever gearing you choose, race cam, high volume oil pump etc and you'd have one hell of a bike!

Yes Kevin I am aware that could be done, but I was just giving him an easier option....Not everyone knows how to port and polish a head, not everyone knows how to custom fit 14/22 gearing, and not everyone knows how to install a race cam....just saying but yeah if would be awesome if you'd do that. I'd help too

To get started take a look at these:
1. Ahp Minis

2.Ahp Minis

3.TBolt USA, LLC » TB Parts » KLX110 DRZ110 » .TB DRZ and KLX 110 143cc W/ RACE HEAD and VM26mm MIKUNI Carb

4.Ahp Minis

Not sure which one of these would work best, but I'm just throwing it out there.

V2 head only fits gpx and yx engines 150cc and up, you can only port and polish the stock head, and even with a BBK it wont have enough torque to pull 14/22 gearing. its just better and easier to get a 140 and start upgrading from their.

they sell the cheapest engine here and shipping is only 10 bucs on all engines:

umm cam's bike with a 22mm mikuni, a restrictor tab removal mod, and an hp air filter can haul 14/22 gearing easily....

Go for the new engine if you got the cash, BUT hang onto the old engine. You can always mod one on the bench while the other's in the frame and rideable .....

Re: Which is better? Mods or new engine?

hmm sounds like people like getting a new engine but also like modding the 110. thanks for all the opinions and the help! Are the 140cc engines easy to swap out? which do you think would cost more: mods or new engine?

I'm thinking that the 140cc would be the better choice, less complications and less tweaking. But then again from holeshotz you can get the carb, manifold, and BBK for around $240.

Re: Which is better? Mods or new engine?

By the time you spend the money to build up a good 110cc.You could buy a 140cc that you can keep upgrading for years to come. I myself absolutly love the new style hybrid motors(150cc and above). These motors seem to have the most options you could ever want.( except the 5spd tranny) They now make a kit so you can make the 150's down to a 110cc or go anywhere in between up to a 187cc monster. With the option of an affordable roller race head or a sohc 4v head.So depending on how you take care of your equipment. You can have a motor that you can upgrade with simple bolt on parts. So you really don't have to worry about reaching the motor's limit rather quickly.

sure no problem

yes a jialing 125 can be made into a monster engine as well, 160cc BBK, Race head with 30/23.5mm valves, all kinds of good stuff you can do with a 125. You can do the same engine mods to a jialing 125 as a GPX 140 so if you plan on modding the engine then just get a 125.

Re: Which is better? Mods or new engine?

ok I think I'll go with the bigger motor. Where do you suggest I get the motor? I was thinking fast trails. Shouldn't it bolt right in without any major modding?

i'm suprised no one has told you that your gonna need to replace the tires, chian, electronics, etc with quality parts, etc. a 140 is nice, but if everything else sucks, it wont be as good.

Re: Which is better? Mods or new engine?

Eh I'm not really worried about electronics. I hate the way the chinese wired it. If I did get the 140 I'd make my own wiring harness for lights and such. I would just need to make sure I get the charging system right. But I've seen on some threads people talking about how some of the engines are really easy with electronics. they wire up easily. But idk i'm not the one with the engine! lol. as for tires and chains and all that...I've seen people with the same tires? idk about chains though

Edit: Oh nvm about all that. I just saw you said "quality"....yea everything will have to be changed haha

Re: Which is better? Mods or new engine?

yea of course all that stuff, and dont forget brakes to stop that fast motor
but were just comparing the benefits of a modded 110 vs a 125+

Depends do you like more topend or more acceleration? Street Riding = you probably want top end. Racing = Something with good acceleration but some top end. Drag Racing = Acceleration
