Exclamation clutch slipping at WOT??? Governors??

i got an 08 x18 and maybe my clutch is slipping or there is some other restriction taking effect. Anyway at top speed, well almost top speed, i can twist it to WOT and the engine revs but thers no more acceleration. when slightly throttle down I can feel it pulling again..
Any suggestions ????????? Do these things have governors??

no governors on the x-18 besides manufacturing flaws it may be your clutch but do you gradually bring it to wot and does it do it in lower gears that would be easiest to tell

Re: clutch slipping at WOT??? Governors??

When a clutch is slipping it will most likely do it in the highest gear (4th on these bikes unless its an automatic) and during acceleration. It is impossible for us to tell if your clutch is slipping but if the engine is revving but the bike is not accelerating then it is definitely slipping, you need to check your clutch cable for adjustment first, make sure there is a little slack in it and if it still slips you need to take the clutch out and see what is going on. The plates could be worn or glazed over or the clutch springs are weak (HD clutch springs are only like $10)

Re: clutch slipping at WOT??? Governors??

Its most likely caused from an improperly set cable and everything stock thats a bolt-on item is a restrictor on these bikes...They advertize 7.5 hp.Out of the box theyre pushing around 6 hp...You have to mod them to get to 7.5hp and beyond 8...Did you change out the shipping oil for 10w/40 motorcycle engine oil[not car oil] and did you fill it only with 5/8-3/4 of that qt?.Too much oil will cause the clutch to slip too....If you didnt change the oil you probably glazed over and messed up the clutch plates aswell as if you used the wrong type of oil.......Peace

It only "slips"in 4th. I did change my oil correctly CAM thanks to your advice from another post. I'll have to check out my clutch cable later today and see what the deal is. Thanks guys in advance.
