How in the World do you remove a rotor!

Man I need some pointers in loosening the rotor bolts on the X19 rotors these things are locked down with loc tite for sure. I do not have a torch to heat up the bolts and they are to small to torque it without stripping the bolts. I have placed every type of lubricant known to man to loosen the threads and they do not move. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Re: How in the World do you remove a rotor!

You have to use an impact driver set with a #3 tip or Craftsman Professional #3 Philips screwdriver and a hammer. Set the screwdriver in the screwtip and hit the top of the screwdriver with the hammer about 5-6 good whacks and then using alot of downward twisting pressure to loosen the screw while holding the tire locked between your legs while kneeling on the floor.......Once the head budges a couple of turns you can use WD-40 spray to penetrate the loctite. When you reinstall the new rotor use new 8.8 #6mmx1.0 x 1/2" screws ................Peace

Re: How in the World do you remove a rotor!

only the mods can delete pics after 30 mins of posting.

The whacks with the hammer shocks and fractures the loctite no threats to stripping the screw head.In fact the hammer blows will help seat the driver tip more snugly in the screw head before any twisting takes place.Dont hit the screw directly with the hammer.put the screwdriver tip in the screwhead and hit the screwdriver handle with the hammer;-then apply downward force on the driver while twisting at the same time til the screw budges..........Peace

Re: How in the World do you remove a rotor!

I have been in this situation before. The Chinese attempt at loctite is this bluish goo that will only serve to ruin your day. You will strip out those china screws very easily. I STRONGLY recommend to get a torch. Find a friend with one or anything else to get the aluminum behind the rotor hot to break the goo. An impact driver will help, but with the cheese metal of bolts on this thing, the bits will likely shear the metal.

It goes without saying to buy new hardware and use real thread locker on re assembly

seeing the graphic make me ask do you know how to keep the best compression over time is it the cam, a polished head what will keep the best compression over time?

cheers

A creme brule' torch will work fine. It is a little smaller than ideal, it will just take a bit longer. Just keep it moving around the aluminum of the wheel close to where the bolts mount to soften the loctite and remove. I have done this many times with success.

Good luck!

I don't think I understand your question. Keep compression over time? Do you mean the duration of gas expansion in the combustion chamber? That is a function of the cam. A polished head, while it will reflect heat (power) into the combustion chamber and keep it away from the chamber, will not effect timing at all. Thanks on the graphic. It has been online for a while. It is a 2 stroke engine. Your x-19 has a 4 stroke...I think. I am not too into the x bikes

Re: How in the World do you remove a rotor!

Thanks, What I mean is with a 4stroke, when you kick start, you have compression that is solid enough to kick start the bike on the first or second kick. How do you maintain that compression so you do not have an issue needing to kick it over(6 or 7 times because the compression has become to low)! Tried the torch did not work loc tite needs to heat up to 500 degrees to get loose from what I understand. I thik I will just take it to Napa. Any ideas where I can get x18 rotors. Been to x188 site they only sell the whole wheel.

Cheers

Thanks

if you just get an impact driver like was said, you would have the bolts out already

Re: How in the World do you remove a rotor!

It my not be the loc-tite mine was seized with corrosion. Someone had been riding the bike through water and not cleaning it. So I drilling them out re-tapping and putting in larger better quality bolts. Both sides the rotor and the sprocket.

Re: How in the World do you remove a rotor!

I went to Napa but they wanted 20 bucks, so decided to spend the money on tools. I did get a handset impact driver and that is how the heads broke. I drilled and tapped it out as well, check out the pics. I am mechanically inclinded but this is the first time I tapped out anything. I am happy for all the help and that it all worked out for me. I can see how this sport can be addictive. Things are coming along great. This project when done is going to be a killer bike!

Hglenn-your right all the other bolts rotor and sprocket came out with impact but two were seized from poor maintainance. Any feedback or ideas for build up will be greatly appreciated. I am looking to get 20-21.5hp using a 140cc evo5 korean mini monster power plant.

Cheers
