I´ve been thinking about turbo charging my motor, but need to know how to install it because the motor is not fuel injected, dont know how to install it properly, should i have the carb mounted before or after the turbo? and where do i find a real small turbo? or is it possible to find a small compressor? then i wonder about the cooling system, how to make it better(its aircooled).
if anyone has any tips about how to make my 50cc 4stroke get about 15-25hp please write
Alright First off the Turbo runs off the exhaust. So the turbo itself will be run inline with the exhaust. As the exhaust runs spools the turbo it pulls air from the filter through the turbo housing and to the carb. The carb will be where it always is the intake just detours through the turbo and then to the carb. But with the way these stock engines are made you may have to upgrade to higher quality internals. I'd say that your best bet is getting a different better engine thatn buying a turbo. It's much less expensive and I doubt you'd find one small enough for this cc of engine.
A camshaft with a profile made for a turbo, there's issues for and against blow-
through / draw through setups, maintaining fuel pressure under boost conditions, then depending on the motor you have and the compression ratio, normally you wouldn't want more than 7 or 8:1 compression ratio.
I think it would be really neat to turbo one of these if it could be done for the cost of less than 2 or 3 new bikes...
I'd rather have a takegawa stage-r pro topend kit... a rev-box, inner-rotor igniton system, 24mm carb and at least a 1" dia. header pipe setup.
you cant turbo charge a 2 stroke can you?, on *Bay ive seen an electric air filter that uses a fan to cram Air into the carb But i dont know if thats the same as a "turbocharger"
Forget about a turbo.I am sure it can be done bet we are talking about cheap chinease bikes. The quality isnt there to hold up to the temperatures and internal pressure a turbo would give. And not to be disrespectful, but if you dont know much about turbocharging it will be almost impossible to do by your self, and then the cost alone would make you not want to do it.Buy a used KX 60 and use that motor and you will grin everytime you ride!
You can turbocharge anything you like, and there are turbochargers that will work on small displacement motors. The Garrett GT12 72 trim. You can turbocharge 2 strokes.
HOWEVER
It simply will never be cost effective. The turbo by itself costs 750 dollars. Then you need to set it up as a draw through (carb in front of turbo) this will require some fabrication. Someone that makes a really small external wastegate such as Tial needs contacted with the specifics of your project to ensure that it is a good fit. Generally the cheapest you will find something like that is 200 dollars. An upgraded carb to deliver adequate fueling will need to be selected (such as a 24mm). Another couple of hundred dollars. The engine needs to have good forged internals and a good aftermarket crank. In order to do this you will have to put a Big Bore kit of some kind on it anyway. The BBR 95 kit (smallest I know of with a replacement crank) is about 800 dollars.
I hope you see where I am going with this. Do a google for XR50 parts, and take a look at BBR, Sano, Takegawa, White Brothers, etc. You will find everything you need, but beware speed costs money. You want some power, by a bigger 2 stroke like a YZ125 or CR125 and relocate the gas tank. Heck even a CR80 (very compact) can be built to scream.
I agree with hurrikain. Turbo is too cost prohibitive for most... We were working on developing a simple kit with company in So Cal...the costs were simply to high.
I say Takagawa 22-24mm carb(I have in stock shipped for only 199), inner rotor kit (shipped for 339) , 13 tooth sprocket (26 shipped), CHM exhaust custom fit to your bike (230+shipping), upgrade the cdi, and port the exhaust...or the kitaco big bore kit (165.00 shipped)...
Bolt on mods that you can feel. Instant results.

do a search for XR50 stuff, you have the same motor, there is a supercharger out there for them, you are better off getting a 4 valve 124cc kit that makes about 22hp which is what you are looking for.
Just Throw Some Nitrous On It. For 200 Bucks Shipped Thats Your Best Bang For Your Buck. Also You Wont Have Any Problems With Reliability. My Bikes Have Had Juice Since Last Summer, I Squeeze All Day Long With No Issues. They Are Easiest To Install On X7 - Cateye- Or Anything With A Battery, Otherwise You Need A 9 Volt Or Rc Car Battery. You Can Easily Double Your Hp.
Look At Mine In My Gallery. Good Luck!
Im really looking into nitrous, but ive always wondered how often do u have to refill the bottle, say i use it once every day i take it out? i have a cateye, also my stock speedo goes over 60 now i mean literally down the the blinker light, intake, exhaust...how much faster will it will nitrous??
can you kinda explian how it works, theres a button to mount, were does the fogger go
you're better off with the bolt-on mods to go faster. like everyone says, turbocharging will cost wayy too much for you to be happy with the final result. you'll probably wished you went with teh bigger carb, bbk, exhaust, etc first.
In response to P49: The engine that he is talking about is a replica of the Xr50 engine from Honda the motor is nearly 30 years old and they never renewed the patent so the chinese copied it. Nearly everything on the motor is the same except the copy doesn't have a 3 speed semi auto gearbox or a kickstart. The engine in your cateye is not the smae your is a 2 stroke his is a 4 stroke, they are completely different.
And for X7 Nooblet: I've been to the site myself although I don't remember the name. You should be able to find it fairly easy just by finding their store through ebay or by searching google.
