OOps, 49cc is also a 72cc

I have been alerting people to that some of the "48cc" labeled 4 strokes are turning out to actually be 72cc bikes but that the "49cc" labeled ones are 49cc. I was wrong, I work on a lot of these Chinese bikes in my shop (pistons, cams, head porting etc.. so I get inside a lot of motors) and today I had two, that's right, two seperate motors that were labeled 49cc and it turned out that they were both 72cc. Just when I thought I had it figured out the Chinese trick us again. The good news is that whomever I may have told that the 49 labeled ones are 49 needs to check their motors again as they may have a 72cc. BTW in case you are checking the 49cc has a 39mm bore and the 72cc has a 47mm bore but they are identical on the outside. Also I need to check again but the head was a E22 but both of these had a 22mm intake valve as opposed to some of the heads with the 20mm valves.

sounds good. I hope mine is at least a 70cc. how do I measure the bore? do I need to take apart the motor?

BTW, what do u recommend OIL wise, in the 4 strokes? I looked at my manual, it does NOT give any mention on what type of oil!?!?!?

Oil wise I like Amsoil, good stuff, it is a bit thin and you will burn a little bit of oil but if you ever tear motors down you know a motor that had Amsoil in it right away without even asking the owner because everything will be so clean inside the motor. You do need to take your head off to measure the bore.

As far as the motors labeled 48cc, most of those are in fact 72cc.

Mild: get a pipe, a NGK C7HSA and tune it right. Medium: high compression piston, cam, head porting and a better carb (22mm for 72 cc or 24-26mm for 110cc). Somewhat wild: add a high flow head to the medium package. Wild: one way would be to get the new 125cc super high performance engine from Badazztoyz with 16hp (the 110s are about 7hp) or get a 124 stroker kit with DOHC and get up to 22hp+ but be prepared as you are looking at about $4k for that DOHC crazy set up.

What about 110cc? How do you tell if it is 110?

Thanks for sharing this information with us,

I got a question for you. You said you have X12 with 49cc stamped on it. Does yours look like the 110c pictured or the 55cc pictured? I will find out when my bike gets here but... but I hope mine looks like the 110cc pictured.

Thanks,

Michael K.
