RX-12 Footpegs

OK, I am sure that we all will agree, the foot peg placement on the rx-12 just flat out sucks! Any suggestions or solutions?

im making some better ones with a brace that goes from peg to peg to keep it alot stiffer..

quality isn't really the issue, it's the location of the pegs, they are too far back.

are the pegs removable and switchable? from side to side, wouldn't they sit higher? or is that not possible?

they wont go side to side cause the left side has a bracket for the shift linkage. They are farther back so you are leaning forward more and its actually pretty comfortable. The pegs need to be braced cause they bend alot so shifting kinda sux.

Everyone has wanted to see these pics. It contains both the upgraded peg and shift linkage all together. Please enjoy. I WILL NOT BE MAKING ANYMORE.

that looks really good. did you move the pegs any higher or lower?

the stock placement doesn't look bad but the sturdiness of them is what concerns me as well.

Raised them about an inch and moved them back about 3.5" It is 3/4 tube (.120 wall) and 9/16's bolts to the frame. The pegs are 3/8" axle BMX pegs attached with BMX axle welded to the peg end. I recommend skipping the axle and just welding the pegs solid as they will bend over time.

Here's a suggestion....

Find a pair of Big bike or a like rear sets (lft side equipped w/shft linkage) from a Cycle Salvage yard. Go to OSH or alike and find the hardware that you'll need to mount them.

-Measure and cut a 1" wd x .125" (1/4") thk steel bar stock to some length.....I like to cut up cardboard and use it as a template and go from there

-Ensure you leave enough length of the bar stock to mount the rear-sets.

-Drill 2 thru holes to the equiv distance & centered to bar stock, of the existing peg mounting studs.

-Mount the plate to chassis to ensure a proper mount/fit.

-Measure and drill the thru holes or tap holes (SAE or Metric) just above the plate mounting holes to mount the rear-sets. Be sure to measure for clearance.

-Mount the new rear-sets to the plate

OSH may carry rods that you could use to complete your shift linkage. Or if ya know a welder, he maybe to help fabricate something.

-After a successful mod. Remove the plates and paint or powder coat you favorite color.

NOTE: I don't own an RX-12, but am sure this idea would work. And fwiw, you don't want the pegs too far behind you = bad/uncomfortable riders position.

GL and hope this info is useful

We relocated the pegs way forward using 1/4" steel0 and used an XR80 shifter that we had shortened.Tossed the impossible shiffting linkage (JUNK). Now you can hold your weight up with your legs and shifting is the way it should have been factory. Its all wrong in stock form. The problem has to fixed in order to out. It reminds of drag bike the way they designed the ergonomics.

Moving them forward seems counter intuitive. You cant pull your legs in as close to the fairing. Moving them back worked alot better for me and I am only 5'4".

Dude they R way too far back in stock form. If you ride off road or real street you will know the instsnt U sit on it the pegs are wrong.Your weight is all on your arms, your feet are behind your butt so there is no way to hold weight on the outside peg in turns.Plus the front rake on the bike is probally 200% less than an X bike or a real bike.Plus its impossible to click up with your foot if its so far back.Even moving the pegs up still leaves you with a bike with a wrong rake. The bike is too long for its height. Park your X6 and rx 12 sitting up right side by side and U will see amazing differences in ergonomics and geometry.Hieght has nothing to do with it im 6'1".

Slow down turbo. Yes the rake is less than ideal. If you design the linkage right, it doesnt matter where the peg is, the linkage will work right either way (mine does). I measured off of my CBR for leg distance and angle and they need to go back to match. Even back as far as they are they work just fine for me. I think this is more a matter of personal preference than a case of whose right.

Do you own a store front or something? Seems like you got a lot of bike there. BTW where do you ride? I am from ATL.

Actually Jayz now that I stop and think about what you said, yeah it is more like a drag bike. I ride tucked over the tank most of time no matter what bike I am on, so the weight on my arms is usually only momentary. They do tend to get speed wobble , and I cant help but think that if there was more rake it would be probably be a little less.

Well I dont think its an opinion. Its wrong. The stock pegs are mounted beside the tire. I've got a good fix on my bike ( now that could be an opinion). Pegs are relocated along w/shifter. I got pics but dont know how to send havnt been on a forum and would love to show. I'd think someone else would beat me to this. The forks on the RX12 are 2.5" shorter than X6. The RX12 apears bigger (Sure is the heaviest)than the X6 so why are the forks so short plus the top triple sits on top of 2 stem nuts all lowering the front. Not good. The setup will exchange and you have to swap all parts w/wheel. I will say I tweaked my swing arm on my X6 110 racing the RX12. The RX12 is strong and fast no doubt it just needs a little extra. You gotta ware out some knee pads and tires in one ride then shes a performer. Wish I could send some of this helmet cam video.

WE cut the rear shock mount out of the frame and rewelded it about 2" higher. This drastically improved the bike. The shock sits alot closer to vertical and works better and more accurate now. Riding on the bike tucked is easier and you can still lay it over far enough to warrant sliders. If it wasnt raining right now I would go film some video.
