Wiring + bike ID

Hey guys, im a euro pocket bike racer myself but i got given a couple of pocket bikes to fix from a friend.

one of them is a mid bike, i got it rebuilt mechanically BUT theres two wires astray that i cant seem to find the other ends for so a bit of help on those would be much appreciated!

and i think the bike is an R1 / X7 but not 100% sure.

there is a spare red wire coming from the battery positive - theres two wires on the battery terminal. one is a thin one that runs off into the loom and the other is a larger red wire thats been soldered it seems but its just hanging loose.

the other is a black wire with a large ring terminal thats just hanging off the starter motor.

any help so i can get it started would be great. thanks!!

edit - think i worked out the extra wiring is for the starter solenoid that is handily missing.

got it cranking over but theres no spark on it. and it doesnt seem to have a starter button? theres a kill switch on the throttle, and on the left side theres a headlight, blinkers switch and one in the middle for the horn. does the horn double as a starter or some such?

but jump starting the motor directly with the battery doesnt yield any spark when the rear brake is in and the ignition is on. so maybe the stator is shagged? what resistance should be on what wires?

looking up on it too i think its an X9? seem pretty rare.. its a 50cc automatic

thanks again

verify the coil and cdi, they are the main spark makers

hey cheers, got it sparking in the end. i thought the stator might have been burnt but the low side is just wrapped in black string.

ill give it a test tommorow. looks like the mufflers been smashed off so fingers crossed it doesnt blow my ears out hah!

then ill just wire in a new starter solenoid and find out where the start button goes and all good

Re: Wiring + bike ID

all working! wired in a starter relay for the time being till i can get an original one which is working good.

doing a quick lap of the test track the steering is shocking. i took the forks off and the bearings in the head are totally ruined. no balls left in them at all.

does anyone have a picture or can describe how the steering setup goes back together?

at the moment its the bottom triple clamp with a large tube in it that goes through the frame and threads on at the top. then theres two tapered bearings at the top and bottom. should there be a crush tube and large bolt passing through the clamps?

just gotta do that, get the solenoid, adjust the dash and glass up the fairings and its all ready to go again

thanks for any help. Glen

Re: Wiring + bike ID

got the wiring all complete with the original solenoid - only one blinker works though so the buzzer box is rooted. so ill grab a car blinker flasher and thats that.

WRT the steering does anyone know where to get the stem bearings?? are they standard BMX bike items (they look roughly the same but its been well over 10 years since i raced)

and does the bolt that holds the top triple tree on pass all the way down to the bottom triple tree and clamp them together or does it just go through the top triple tree and castle nut?

thats the last of my questions

thanks so much!
Glen

Re: Wiring + bike ID

yes i think it does and the bearings are cheap aluminum that will wear out, mine havent yet but you can replace them with a roller bearing
