x8 wiring.. yuck

ok so basically i was just given a pocket bike. ALL day ive been trying to get it running on its own power but the wiring is a total mess. the guy that gave me the bike had spliced and diced the wiring all over the place and its very hard to follow. if anyone could post maybe a schematic. I dont need any of the lights to function or anything i just want it to run/start.

if i had to guess i would say there was an ignition switch here at some point( the connector says rower lock??)

ya you got the right bike
i cant really help you without being there
start by taking all the stuff that you know is not essential
like lights and stuff
you need for sure: cdi, coil, voltage regulator, battery

Re: x8 wiring.. yuck

well yea.. thats what ive been trying to do, eliminate all the lighting and turn signals and garbage. but there are 2 things that i cant figure out. one is in the 2nd picture. i think there used to be some kind of ignition switch but there isnt one now and im wondering how the wiring would go for it. and the 2nd is a yellow and green wire that comes out of the relay, it is factory spliced and its just cut about 5 inches down the line.I think its for the low current part of the relay but i dont know where its supposed to connect to. im pretty confused about the whole thing. i think a lot of it has to do with that ignition switch deal.

Re: x8 wiring.. yuck

the problem with the bike is no kick start...it would be easy for me to send you the wiring diagram for it if there was one.....but with an electric start only your best chance to get it running again is to get a new harness and remove the old wiring and wire it into the bike...that way you know there will not be a problem with the wires at leat..everything is marked so you can't screw it up putting it in...

Re: x8 wiring.. yuck

well dude the whole point of me asking for help would be so i dont have to spend any money to get it running. Its pretty straight forward that i could just buy a new harness. But that would involve spending money along with finding one. which, from what i can see, isnt that easy either. Maybe im missing something though. Im starting to think the relay is bad. idk why it kind of just all leads back to that.

Re: x8 wiring.. yuck

there are no schematics that came with these bikes that are worth the paper they are printed on.........re-wiring it is a pretty simple job, I could do it if I had the bike in front of me but trying to explain what and how to do it is another story.....I totally wired my son's bikes from scratch using relays, inline fuses ect.....

To make the starter work you will have to have the positive wire from the battery (red) to the left side of the relay (left side when the small wires are pointing up), then from the right side of the relay to the starter......There are two small wires with a plug, might be blue and yellow wires... On needs to be grounded and the other needs to be hot from the start button....This will get the bike to crank over....Ignition wiring would another story....Not hard but more in depth..
