Anyone know X-2 chain size?

If ya know what the X-2 chain size is gimme a post. I need an upgrade and not a replacement.
I have calipers but if there's a size number that translates to the "real world" then all the easier. I hear chains come in #13, 14, etc....Thanks

its #219 chain. it should measure about 5/16" (8mm) from pin to pin. you can find it at kart supply stores but its expensive. the 114 link kits are too short, but i did find a site that sells a 10 foot roll for $90.

Pharohx;

From my research I believe it is #219 DID type timing chain.

This chain is normally used for cam timing chain in full size bikes. Because of this, they are single piece without a master link.

For identifcation, measure center to center between pins. It will be .315" (or 5/16"). The links are also solid without rollers.

Hope this helps,
Pops

#219 chain is common in kart racing but more popular in europe and japan. its also know as a "euro" chain. there are more links per foot so kart racers use it so they can have a sprocket with the same diameter as a #35 chain sprocket but have more teeth. more teeth = more strength.

i had seen that this size of chain is used for timing chains for cars and even some motorcycles. however, DID isn't the only manufacturer of #219 chain. EK, Wipperman, and some generic suppliers also make this chain.

My rear chains on both the cats I have has a masterlink.

I was under the impression the X bikes had a different chain size than the cats........I have heard people hear saying it was the same as a single speed bike....which I believe is like size 41. I have yet to see a X bike so I am just going from what some here have posted. I have also seen on some sites that sell chains and sprockets asking for the thin or thick versions.?????

I had a hard time finding extra chain for my X-2. It is definately a different (larger) size than what comes standard on the Cat-Eyes bikes.

ANSI #35 chain is and has been known as "Go-Kart & Mini-Bike" chain. It is roller-less like the METRIC #219 chain. Both are generally considered weak with short life spans.
With sizes #40 (ansi) or #5A (metric) and above, you get actual rollers, that decrease friction and wear, with subtantionally increased strength and usable life.

Problem with changing chain sizes, comes in finding matching front/rear sprockets for your particular bike for the larger chain.

Unlike the X-1 bikes who can use a bicycle type chain, the X-2 had me walking in circles. Not anymore. Thanks again GANG!
