Bike forever to start!!

ok, heres the problem. after eveytime i ride my bike..i leave it in my house and the next day when i bring the bike outside and try to start it..it would take forever to start..i have to press on the electric start button for like 4 secs and sometimes it would start but i have to give it a lil throttle otherwise it would just shut off. but after warming it up and riding it for awhile..the bike would start right up everytime..i think the cold weather might have to do something about it but i'm not sure.

4 sec is not a long time. Think about how long it takes to start a car or truck that isnt warmed up.

thats the point of the choke , put it on if its cold, crank it if it starts move it to the middle and it shold stay on if not leave it in the middle and crank again with a little gas and ill start

just so im clear...

closing the choke means closing the hole in between the filter and carb correct? or does that mean opening up the hole?

on my setup (see avatar) if i have the lever all the way down (which i think closes off the hole) i can start it and it will run. BUT if i try to rev it wiill start to die (this is right correct?)

so i move the lever up just a tad bit and it will run fine.

is this typical? i have the stock carb....

yes, with the choke closed. you have no air coming in to the carb.
it will idle but die with throttle.

No, it won't necessarily die, but it will drag terribly (it happened to me one time when I left the choke closed haha) and it has horrible response and power, I'd say opening it 7/8 of the way or 1/8 closed. That's what I normally do.
