carb screw adjustment

I recently took off the carb on my 49cc to fix the throttle cable stop screw... got that fixed.. so while i had the carb off i cleaned it a lil bit and adjusted the screws according to how people on here have said to set them. Now the bike (which ran perfect and started first yank) wont start at all.

so whats the 'default' settings for the low and high speed mixture screws on a 49cc carb? because i've searched and get 5 differant answers (1/14 way out, 1 3/8 turns out 2 turns out etc)

so if i have them both screwed in all the way,, Does anyone know what the default settings are?

thanks,
Mike

Re: carb screw adjustment

lol you guys are picture happy I don't have time to take new pics tonight so heres my photobucket. bike pictures by mizzie213 - Photobucket theres a bunch of pics of the bike on there. But see the dilema is... it ran perfect till i messed wit the screws.. I turned the side screw 1 1/2 turns out from all the way screwed in (not tight). the top slotted brass screw was screwed all the way in originally (atleast it felt that way) I can't find a correct setting for the top screw.. I cleaned the carb out using fresh gas and made sure not to damage gaskets, So i'm 95% sure it's not an air leak.

and yes it's a cateye, even though this is a mostly cag forum trhe motors are similar and i figured one of you guys can help a cateye dudeee out haha thanks

Being picture happy ain't a bad thing ....... besides, it helps us to "see" what the problem is, since a good half of the people who try explaining things to us can't figure out how to do so clearly ....

Re: carb screw adjustment

Hey mizzie looks like you've got the same carb. I have. Turn the top screw in till it just touches then one full turn. This controls the idle speed. You may need to adjust this to your bikes liking. The lower screw controls the lean, rich mixture. Turn it all the way in, then back out one half turn. To start you may need to close the choke and roll back on the throttle a little then pull the starter or push the button if you have an electric start. Let the bike warm up and go for a ride. Take a small flat head screw driver with you. watch your speed if the bike bogs with you give it gas turn the lower screw ccw 1/8th of a turn. Run the bike wide open if the top speed is better give the screw another 1/8th of a turn ccw. Repeat these steps till the bike feels strong. You may need to make small adjustments back and forth to find the sweat spot. Remember it takes very fine adjustments no BIG turns. Then back the top screw out a small amount till the bike idles smoothly and at a lower RPM(it should always be touching though). When the bike cools if it is hard to start turn the lower screw a VERY small amount ccw, then screw the top screw in 1/8th turn.. Good luck

Re: carb screw adjustment

Mizzie sounds like you might have some trash in your carb. Maybe a clogged jet...or maybe your fuel filter is clogged. You may need to disassemble your carb and clean it. Its not hard at all, just take your time, and if you need to, take a few pics while you take it apart. Use some carb. cleaner like b-12 or something and spray it down good. Afterward spray the rubber pieces down with wd-40 to protect them from drying out. But, before you do ANYTHING turn the lower screw ccw one 1/4 turn just to see if it gets better. Then look in your tank you should have a filter pushed into your fuel line if so replace it. Good luck.. also check to see if the intake gasket is leaking
