Cat Eye help..bogging

I was trying to help a friend today with his cat eye.. it seems it just doesnt hit the power band... It is totally stock..... I tried adjusting his carb....First I tried to lean it out.... it was really underpowered going up the road and would just not hit it's powerband like my X7 at full throttle... Then I tried richening it progressively... still would just bogg down at W.O.T. I even try adjusting on the bike.. stop.. adjust.. then I tried ajusting with just back tire in the air... throttling.. adjusting.. it just doesnt wind out the rpm's like my X7.... You get going down the road at w.o.t. and you can just hear the bogging sound.. especially when my X7 just screams past the thing? what gives?

Sounds like a carb problem. You also need an exhaust pipe to 'hit the powerband'. Try tuning the carb like I did. Stand it up in the grass, have a friend hold the front of the bike and turn the throttle all the way(wide open) and you adjust you fuel mixture. I tuned mine by leaning it out and then start to richen the fuel up when it started bogging.
Bogging = Needs More Fuel
Sputtering = Too Much Fuel

The freakin screw for the mixture was ridiculously hard to get to with a screw driver.. it looks like the cover needs to be trimmed more to get to it easy... it does have a half circle cut out by the screw, but it isnt lined up good enough... i'll have to take his air filter cover off and trim that up a bit for easier tuning

Tell your freind he needs a new air filter and V-stack get the stock air box off that bike thats half of the problem. It needs more air. Also check the brakes and see if there rubbing.

it's definately a tuning thing.. it just doesnt hit the rpm range like my X7 and the motor is a grey top identical to mine..... So let me get this straight:
Turning mixture screw clockwise= more fuel
Turning mixture screw counterclockwise=More air
Is this correct?

Just the opposite,
clockwise=lean(less fuel-more air)
counter-clockwise=rich(more fuel-less air)
Hope this helps!

Some cateyes are just slugs man. I did all that I could for cheap- stack and filter, tuned carb, timing, removed elec. etc.(the silver one) and still only inches past the bone stock untuned black one. My silver one feels like it "never hits the powerband" while the black one does a little. Still need to check if its 43 cc...
