Red face Cateye: exhaust broke off!

As I was riding, my exhaust broke across the middle of the pipe, so as I was removing the pipe from the engine, the bolts broke off and left the hole covered with the broken bolt, so now I can't install an aftermarket exhaust, and I'm left with no exhaust at all. It also spits out a lot of oil through the exhaust hole. Is this bad? To run my motor with no exhaust?

I would not keep riding it without an exhaust... You will be able to get the bolt out but you may have to take the engine out but its pretty easy to do.. I broke an engine mounting bolt which left the stub in the engine.. just a small hammer and centre punch should do it.. just put the centre bolt as close to the side of the bolt as poss and at an angle then tap it round anti clockwise.. you should be able to get it out if not take it to a local engineering shop they will get it out for you

Its not bad running the motor witha broken silencer but with no exhaust at all is very bad. Dirt can go into the motor and destroy the cyclinder walls.

You would be suprised at how common this is. Save your money, engineering shops charge between $25 and $45 to remove sheared bolts (standard charge). Just go to Auto Zone, Advanced, etc. and ask for a "left hand" or "reversed" drill bit for about $2 - $4 and back it out yourself. Its easier than you think. Just make sure to keep the bit centered and run the drill slow. I get about 4 - 7 of these a week!.
