Cateye Help

Hey folks, figured now was as good a time as any to put my first post up. I own a 2 bikes, a x2 and a cateye, both 49cc. I can tell you the x2 is a fun bike to ride and is mostly complete, just missing the lower fairing piece.

the cateye however is a different story.. Im pretty good with wiring and im trying to fix the hack job done by the previous owner. I know that color's on these chinese bikes mean nothing. but what i dont know is what parts im missing.

So i do know that im missing the ignition switch and blinker control. Is the ignition switch a 2 wire or 4 wire? does this bike have a starter relay? or is the "control box" under the seat house it, it's a 4 wire unit, and is it the rectifier as well? the bike runs great, i would just like to get the wiring sorted and i want it to work as designed. i know i can take it out and the bike will work but i would rather not.

Thanks for the help, it would be nice to have another bike in front of me to compare it too.

Re: Cateye Help

btw, popped open the control box under the seat, the 30a relay inside leads me to believe its atleast partially a starter relay.

hoping that someone with a 4 wire control box under the seat can tell me what the 2 wire plug goes to.

Re: Cateye Help

I was in the same situation, I'd help you but i eventually got restless and ripped all the wiring out LOL and just made use of the elec. start with a switched ground and pos to the batt.

Re: Cateye Help

last night i pulled the tape off the main harness bundle and traced out all the wiring. got everything working and I'm using a toggle switch for bike power and kill switch. dont have a ignition key so.. just pleased that everything works with the exception of the turn signals, need a new blinker relay.

not impossible to do, just tedious.

Re: Cateye Help

do you have a 3 wire or 4 wire control box?

Im gonna be pulling the bike apart again pretty soon to do some motor work and ill see what i can do on drawing up a diagram. problem is that since i dont have an ignition i might be a lil off from factory.

I started off by determining which wires did what on the speedo and connected the 4, 5, and 6 wire plugs first. then i traced out all the 2 wire plugs for the electric start, horn, kill, and i still have one extra plug that might be blinker relay.

for those wondering, the 4 wire control box as far as i can see is a "battery in" on one heavy gauge wire, the other heavy gauge wire goes to the starter and a ring terminal that goes into the speedo plug. the 2 wire plug on the box goes to your starter button in line with the brake lever plug.

diagram to follow as soon as i pull the bike apart
