gas lines to tank

Cateye 49cc...

There are two lines from the carb to the tank. The stiffer line is the source line. It is getting too hard to push it onto the carb inlet and still stay tight. I would plan to replace it with a more flexible line - like the return line. However, the stiffer line is preformed to go to the bottom of the tank, whereas a flexible line would tend to float. How are you supposed to keep a flexible source line on the bottom of the thank?

Re: gas lines to tank

The black line is the feed line and the clear line is the return line so you can see when the carb is properly primed...Look inside the tank;-take a coat hanger and fish out the lines;-youll see a filter stone on the end of the black line that will be glazed, clogged or discintigrated that will need to be changed...the new fuellines can be gotten from your local mower repair shop aswell as the filter...Its the same fuelline/fuelfilters thats used on weedeaters and backpack blowers. The new lines get prebent with a heat gun to get the bends to conform without kinking plus the stone filter helps the line stay at the bottom of the tank too.....................Peace

Re: gas lines to tank

Thanks CAM2

Can you use a heat gun to pre-bend flexible clear line or does only the harder black plastic line respond to heat-induced pre-bending?

I can buy the clear line at the hardware store. Although maybe that line may only work with water and not fuel (?)

Re: gas lines to tank

you can use the heat gun to shape both...The clear line for fishtanks works ok;-they just yellow-up and harden up a little quicker than the original line that youre replacing but it will last a few years..ACE/TrueValue hardware sells the fuelline/fuelfilters for weedeaters too...

Re: gas lines to tank

Thanks. I'll get some of the clear line at Ace. I don't have a heat gun... I'll try a hair dryer.

There's also that white plastic line used for humidifiers and ice makers. It is relatively stiff. May not come in the right diameter though.
