Question HELP!! cateye wiring problem :(

alrighty i got my bike from my friend years ago, and he took all the wiring off minus the key shut off, and i was wanting to put it back on now, but i have no clue what some of the wires go to. i got most of them back together and cleaned up the harness with zipties so its not a rats nest of wires, and i have 8 left to find out where they go, and i still have 8 places for them to go, (2 one the key switch, 2 on the chargin port, 1 on the fuse, 1 on the motors alternator thing, and 2 for the battery) so hopefully with your help this should be pretty easy

heres abunch of pics lol

1. is a single red wire, bare ended
2. is a single, thickly insulated wire with alot of solder on the end of the exposed wire
3. and 4. are together and one is blk and one is red, both bare ended
5. is a single red wire, bare ended
6. is a red wire with a female spade connector on it
7. is a black wire with alot of solder on the end of the exposed wire
8. is a single black wire, bare ended

and the black wire to the left of #8 is im assuming just a ground that i need to grounded somewhere.

Re: HELP!! cateye wiring problem :(

your wiring harness is different from mine but, the thick insulated wir labeled 2 is your starter wire, goes to the elec. start on the engine. it connects to the starter solenoid. the other side of the solenoid goes to the battery and charger port. the black wires look like commons, ring termibal goes to any ground point on the motor and the others go to the negative on the battery.

3,4,5, and 6, could probably be determined by where they go on the solenoid but one should be for battery positive, one for key switch, one for accessory power and black ideally would be a ground.

the solenoid is just a trigger for the electric start, the 2 bolt connections are a battery in and out and will have a charger port wire going to the "in side" and starter to "out" side. with 2 smaller wires for the trigger.

some of this im positive, and some is just what ive seen in rewiring a couple bikes at this point. following wires and knowing which parts do what will help.

Re: HELP!! cateye wiring problem :(

ok, lol thanks for helping me out, this is my first time doing wiring on a mini bike or motor bike of any type, and ive done a bit on my car with motor swaps and stuff but even that was with pics of what connected to what, and i must say, wiring things is my least favorite thing to do lol,

ok so #2 goes to the male spade connector on the elec. starter, which is the alum. cylinder between the pull cord and the motor,

and the wires coming out of the other side of the starter solenoid go to the battery and charger port?

and what do you mean the black wires look like commons,

the ring terminal grounds on the motor,

and which other ones go to the neg side of the batt.??

and do you want a pic 3,4,5, n 6 on the solenoid?

please bare with me lol, i really dont like wiring lol

Re: HELP!! cateye wiring problem :(

your right on the starter

commons.. i should have said ground wires

your right on the black ring terminal

the most of the black wires when used as a ground or wired together and end up connecting to the ground side of the battery.

the red wires go to different places, usualy to charger port, battery, key switch, etc

Re: HELP!! cateye wiring problem :(

do you think #6 is the pos batt side? since its got the spade connector to connect to the battery post?

and what do you think #1 is? since its all by itself? and i had to replace #1 because the looked like the wire had burned, like the insulation was all crispy, not sure if thatd help you decide what #1 went to, meybe like somethin that alot of current goes thru?

Re: HELP!! cateye wiring problem :(

alrighty i got some new pics of the starter solenoid.

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...prob020num.jpg

#1. is the red wire by itself that i had to replace because the wire burned.

#2. is the red wire that leads to 3,4,5, n 6, on this pic http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...labelednum.jpg and the orange wire that doubles back from #2 and turns into a yellow wire goes to the blinker relay

#3. is the thick insulated that goes to the starter

#4. is the green wire turns into a brown wire and goes to the "speedometer"

#5. is the yellow wire that goes to the control module

#6. is the green/purple wire that turns into the 4 black ground wires, 1 that goes to the control module, and the the other three that still dont go to anything, ring terminal, and the 2 others

do i connect all of those black wires to the neg side of the batt?

#7. is the yellow/red wire that turns into a red wire that goes to the starter button on the handlebars

which wire goes to the pos. side of the battery? i was thinkin that one red one with the spade connector cause theres nothing else that the spade could connect to other than the horn, or do both of the spade connectors connect to the horn?

Re: HELP!! cateye wiring problem :(

the wire that goes to the battery will be on the opposite post from the wire that goes to the starter. thats the best way to put it

the horn will have a power wire and a ground

Pos + ________________________horn button__________
Horn
gnd - ____________________________________________l

Follow the wiring to make your connections, DC circuits require power in and a ground out, if theres a switch or a button its in line with the positive.

the starter solenoid is just a relay to engage the starter and a place to hook up power, no grounds on top post's. the 2 wires on the bottom close the relay connecting the posts, and is engaged when you press the start button

follow the wires, power will go through the rear brake lever, then to the start button, then to the solenoid trigger wire the out the 2nd wire on the solenoid bottom and to the ground.
