Hoping to identify Make & Solve a slipping clutch prob.

HiYa,
Hoping to identify make of what I have, fix a likely clutch problem.
Posted pic with & without bodywork.

Starts up easily & idles smooth, revs up nicely. Brakes not dragging, but clutch not engaging darn it. Just barely grabs, and revs are up as needed.

These stock clutches can be adjusted? Or they get worn/burned and need rebuilding sometimes? Thy are dry type, and accessed by pulling the outboard facing bolts to remove housing? Not sure of the single front and rear facing bold in this housing either

Thx for any advice folks

Don in Seattle Wa.

this is a cateye pocketbike

Parts can be found at:

FS509 49cc Cat-Eye Pocket Bike Replacement Parts

Stock clutch is not adjustable. Open your clutch housing and check for damaged clutch.

Thx, a Cateye, now getting somewhere .

Pulled the 5 bolts and outer housing only to find reduction gearing. Clutch must be housed behind this? Appears need to pull motor, or undo & move it up a bit to get to that next cover.
Any puller or special tool needed to pull & replace a Cateye clutch?
Finding a manual w/b nice, but not essential I suppose

Cheers

Yes the clutch is behind the tranny and you will have to pull the motor to get to it. All you really need is a socket and rachet to get the clutch bolts out to remove it. While you have the cover off of the tranny clean it out and replace to old grease with some good grease.

Re: Hoping to identify Make & Solve a slipping clutch prob.

Hmm, just doesnt look too bad to me, as in pic below. Clutch is intact, not lots of shoe dust inside cover, see decent amount of meat on shoes. W/ a tool, I pried the unsprung end of each from the stops and they both swing out freely (wow, lots of resistence frm that spring :~) .
Next:
Tempted to just use some pry force on the spring to try and stretch it out a bit so shoes swing out easier. Put it back together..
If still best to pull clutch shoes, need to lock it or engine from rotating to undo the big hex bolts holding on shoes:
- Pulling cover that surrounds it would allow locking the drive shaft?
- Use some kinda custom tool (could make) to fit into clutch to allow locking it (?)
- Could see a struggle getting clutch back together, that its not a slam dunk thing to deal with on this CatEye..

Thx for any opinions folks

Yeah, thx for the confirm.
Gonna work the clutch spring a bit to loosen, then reassemble.

For the gear area, will use automotive grease in bearings / on shafts, then a quantity of gear oil for in the case (enough to fully cover the bottom of it as its face up facing me). Wing'n it here..

VACA time now tho, back on it in 7 days

Cheers

Cool Re: Hoping to identify Make & Solve a slipping clutch prob.

So back on the fix attempts now, and have a new baddy to deal with.

Got it all together, still clutch not enganging enough to go up any slope at all. Becoming a bit impatient, I put it up on a stand, fired it up, wanted to listen for high speed miss (Maybe it was not reaching high revs to engage clutch?)
Reved it up a good bit many times, like used to do with the karts. Something came loose in carb I suspect, cause now the fuel flow won't shut off, it leaks out carb, had to remove the fuel hose and keep end above tank to contain gas. It floods/fouls plug now, wont start.

Gonna pull carb, hoping just a needle valve or similar is stuck. Any idears?

Thx all

Don

Re: Hoping to identify Make & Solve a slipping clutch prob.

When those carb start to do that your better off just getting a new carb. But a good cleaning may help but I dought it. So where do you have the mixture screw set at? Like how many full turns from all the way in. If you screw it in just screw it just until it stops don't tighten it. Which I'm sure you know but just wanted to make sure.
