Installing a Rocket Key..


can anyone tell me how to install a Rocket Key?




X-1 Without CVT.

Its the same steps on all the mids. You remove the transmission then remove the clutch. Use a sterring wheel puller to take off the flywheel and theres the old key. Replace it and your done. For a full version of this doa search theres a really good post on this with pictures.

why do you have to pull the tranny and clutch to get the flywheel off???

they are on opposite sides of the motor? I"m just curious I don't own a midbike

On a midbike its behind the transmission. Its the opposite of the reed motors.

And be sure you dont put the key in backwards. Doing so will retard the timing. You want the flywheel to advance which means it's orientation will be moved further in the direction of rotation.

Can anyone post pics or direct me to a better post??? im very confused.... do youneed to use a steering wheel puller??? Does it do alot to your performance?

I don't know how it looks on a X1 but you can figure it out anyway.

Find out what way the engine spins - you can check that by gently pulling the pullstart and look at the flywheel, that way you'll see what way it spins. Clockwise of counter clockwise?

Then set the rocket key so that the flywheel magnets faces the ignition coil earlier.
That's the whole idea, to make it go "boom" earlier before top dead center. (TDC)
