My x1 doesnt want to start..a little help please.

okay, well i got this x1 and ive had it for a few already, and i decided to buy a new carb/air filter for higher performance, but now that i have this new carb my bike wont even start, it makes the sound like its about to start but nothing and with the old carb it started fine. so in other words it makes a sound when i pull start it but it doesnt start up. ive checked the spark plug see if it sparked and it does so i guess that fine, not sure if i mix the oil and gas right but is that really a problem? and the sound isnt coming from the pullstart or by that area is the sound when your trying to turn on the bike and also with the new carb came a manifold but it doesnt seem to fit..so what could it be? can anyone tell me what i have to do? so i can finally try out the new performance on the carb..and ride my bike.

P.S how do i post Pictures?

thx in advance.

Hey...

You can upload the pictures using photobucket or putfile or some other free hosting site, Then add a link or use the insert image button up by the formatting option stuff.

Once you let us know what carb it is you got we will be able to be more helpful.

Looks like that carb should be fine with a little tuning...

But I've not used it yet, So let me move this thread to the 2-stroke Mid-Bike section and see if we can get you some help..

Re: My x1 doesnt want to start..a little help please.

do you have a gasket between the carb and the manifold?

sounds to me like it needs to be tuned properly. use the same method you would with the stock carb, the idle screw, the one that stops the throttle cable arm should be screwed in about half way to start. and try to get the cable housing fed straight into the carb barrel (looks like its in funky). your high speed screw appears to be screwed all the way in dial it out 2.5 turns and tweak from there if it will start. make sure you got your choke closed and you see fuel going back the return hose after priming.

what i found helpful for me was using a car battery plugged into my battery connector to run the electric start. I put a rubber band around the rear brake lever so i could hit the start button with one hand and adjusts the idle/low speed mix/high speed mix until the bike started.

good luck and be patient. once you get the hang of these carbs they all of the sudden become brutaly simple. And once again make sure you dont have any air or fuel leaks between the carb and the manifold/motor

(picture please) and what cable r u talking about? i have no idea which one is the (cable housing ) the one u mention, oh another thing sorry the fuel line cable (black and clear one) which one goes on top and which one goes on the bottom on the carb and the fuel filter on which cable does it go on..the black or the clear one..and is the primery is it suppose to be full with fuel or empty?

Re: My x1 doesnt want to start..a little help please.

If you handmade a gasket then that may be your start-up problem.Theres a small pulse port hole that pushes air to pump the carb when the engine is cranking and running...The lsn setting is 1-1/2 and the hsn is 1-1/2 turns out....Also sometimes the carb mount screws are too long for the assembly and bottom out before the gasket has a chance to compress and seal.See if you can wiggle the carb...the black line is the fuel feed and the clear one is the return line...the primer bulb is supposed to be full and I also noticed youre missing an engine mount screw........................Peace

Re: My x1 doesnt want to start..a little help please.

You don't need a new manifold but what you need to do is mod your stock manifold for that carb or get the adapter plate for it. What the problem is that carb doesn't cover the pulse hole all the way (that oblong hole in the bottom side of the manifold) so the little fuel pump in that carb isn't working cause it's not getting the pulse it needs to work. So what you need to do is fill in the bottom half of the oblong pulse hole with some JB weld. Turn the low screw to 1 turns out and the high screw to 2 turns out and turn the idle in all the way.

Here's a thread that will show you what you need to do.

Here's a thread that tells you how to tune that carb. Print it and have it right with you while you are tuning it.
