New Piston New ported cylinder, bike wont start!!!
I just put a new cylinder and race piston and now the bike wont start, is it because of the stock carb???? Do i need a bigger carb for my bike to run??? Any help would be appreciated thnx!!!
with a compression tester. you can also check it by putting your finger over the spark plug hole after you remove the plug, there should be quite a bit of air trying to push your finger out, if there isn't, something is installed wrong. What size base gasket are you running and what did you set the squish at?

*** is a squish??? and its the stock gasket that the cateyes has. I dont know whats up.
how are you replacing a cylinder when you don't know how to set the squish on the new one?? The squish is the distance between the piston at TDC and the bottom of the combustion chamber, essentially the clearance before the piston hits the top of the cylinder.

so how would u set the squish and would that cause it not to start>???
well i did the combustion test and there was a hell of alot of air pushing my finger out, any other ideas? Spark plug is fine.
combustion test LOL-----> compresion test sorry i could help myself LOL squish??? thats the first time i hear that term i guess its only with bikes since i been into cars for years and never heard that, it would be better if you had a compression tester thats the only thing i could think of, well stick your finger in there and pull the starter a couple of times it shold come out moist well really little plus you should be able to smell the fuel in there

were did you get the ported cylinder and piston from and what kind of porting was done,do you have a windowed piston, that can cause a no start condition by lack of primary compression in a piston port engine.you can put old cyl&piston back in to see if problem gos away hope this can help ya TJ

Did you make sure the pulse hole in the exhaust port was clear and that the carburetor and gasket were set in the right position for the pulse to work correctly?
Is the engine firing correctly?
Did you install the piston correctly....with the arrow pointing to the exhaust port and the rings set to the ring retainers pins on the piston?

Turns out it was the piston is was set backwards but would that cause it not to start??? I havent tried to start it, well see wut happens thnx
Did you put the arrow on the piston pointing towards the exhaust? Also I assume you took the engine completely off the bike, did you take the magneto off? If so when you put it back on, did you gap it correctly?

No i didnt take the engine off the bike, why would i??? All i did was remove the head put the piston on and put the head back on, i set the piston rings correctly. No i also left the magneto on.

Well the search is over i found the problem!!! The piston was an backwards and when it would crank the piston would be hitting and since its lightned it just began to shatter and shatter, so looks like the stock piston is going back anybody know which way to put the piston on because i cant see the arrow on top of the stock one, THNX

Sometimes on the stock pistons it looks more like an indention than an arrow. Place the indention/arrow towards the exhaust port.
I am confused about your reply. You say since the piston was on backwards that it shattered from hitting the crank?........That should not have happened. I would call the place where you got it and have them send out another one.
