wont stay running

it's been a while since I've been on here, a lot going on you know. Well I finally took my old x-1 out of retirement and took it for a ride yesterday. it rides perfect but for some reason it wont stay running, I think the idol screw it set to high, because when the choke is on it'll start to move and when you take the choke off, if you don't give it gas it will just die, almost if you were running it to rich or to lean but the mixture is fine it's just when you let it sit for a few seconds.

thanks

Re: wont stay running

Sounds like you have a air leak or your carb is loose. Are you running old gas?

Re: wont stay running

nope, it's new gas, what I did was not to long ago I swapped a 49cc piston port engine onto a scooter (really fun and power band will life the front tire of the ground if you're standing in the right spot) and I pretty much swapped over the carb and v-stack/air filter onto my pocket bike because the carb was gone on the pocket bike. Like I said it runs perfect when you're riding but when you stop after like 5 -8 seconds it will pretty much stall, then you have to put the chock on to start it again after it's already hot

x2 on the air leak.
Check for the carb to the manifold gasket or manifold to the cylinder gasket.
I had both of those go bad on me and my bike would start then die when i stopped giving it gas.

Re: wont stay running

Richen the low speed needle on the top of the carb;-its the brass slotted screw on top,-turn it out atleast 1/8-1/2 turn out max with a flat blade stubby screwdriver..Then set the hsn needle on the carb side to 1-1/4- 1-1/2 turns out;-start it and adjust the idle from there and see how it runs..........Peace
