X2 CVT Question

As suggested I changed out the stock exhaust for an aftermarket in an attempt to get above the 35MPH mark. Ive retuned the stock carb to handle the new exhaust.
Posted elsewhere asking for suggestions about an aftermarket carb and was told to post here to get the correct answer. Im guessing the new exhaust will get me another 3-5 MPH with any luck but would like to reach at least 40 if possible without going nuts with bolt ons. Any suggestions concerning the carb or anything else would be appreciated. BTW, the bike if my grandsons, weighs about 60 pounds so IMO 40 MPH isnt really out of reach with the correct bolt ons.
Thanks in advance.
Bill

Bill, 40 mph with just a pipe is pretty much out of the question... The stock carbs are junk so thats gonna hold you back alot..... The gearing should be changed....The cylinder will need ported and polished to let more air and fuel in and get rid of the exhaust faster..... Advancing the timing will help also...

Depending on what pipe you bought, I'm guessing the skinny, make sure that the header is match ported to the cylinder, most of the pipes including stock have a small inlet that covers half of the exhaust port thus causing alot of restriction and excessive back pressure...

Don't go by the stock speedo, they are wayyy off....

Re: X2 CVT Question

Which pipe did you get for your grandson's X-2? If you don't mind me asking how old is your grandson? At 60 pounds sounds pretty young. How fast do you think the X-2 is going before and after the pipe? As for a carb the stock carb can work very well. If it's the 15mm and not the 12mm. But if you want to get a better carb I suggest getting a true 15mm walbor carb along with a V-stack and filter to go along with the pipe. Than I would match the intake to the carb the hole through it is a little smaller than 15mm. Than I would take the exhaust header off the bike and match it and the gasket to the exhaust port the best you can and clean up the welds on the inside of the header.

Re: X2 CVT Question

I picked up the Performance Fatty Pipe from Scooter Parts Depot. Grandson is 11, very lite/small for his age but he has been on a dirt bike now for almost 3 years and wanted to switch to a crotch rocket since I have my Z-12. Yes 60 pounds is lite but his age etc...he's pretty good. I will look for the carb as suggested, thanks for both responces.

Re: X2 CVT Question

........and while Im at it, Ive read a cpl other posts that the CVT can be removed or at least the belt. Some have said it causes nothing but problems etc.....Understanding the bike is chain driven but what purpose does the bet serve? Still learning, the owners manual is usless at best so thanks for all the imput I can get.

Re: X2 CVT Question

The CVT is has close to having different gears on these bike as your going to get unless you do a motor swap. Myself I like the CVT I feel it's the fastest tranny made for the MidBikes. I've never had any problems with mine other than needing to change a belt once in awhile. At some point you will need to tune the CVT as in the way it's setup in stock form you will over mod the motor and it will not allow the motor to get up on the pipe. This is what I like most about the CVT is that it can be tuned. They are the fastest off the line and will be the fastest on the top end. But if you want to remove it you will need to move the motor mount cause none of the other trannys will work where it is now on the X-2.
