X2 leaking

My x2 is leaking from the carb gasket area it appears. It only leaks sometimes tho which i think is sort of wierd. I replaced the carb on it not to long ago and i was thinking maybe the new gasket material might be too thin. IF it is leaking it leaks out the whole tank and seems to flood the engine real bad. I had to tip the bike back and gas comes out of the exhaust pipe. It does end up starting again but it takes a little bit and has to sit for a while. Any ideas on what i can do???

Re: X2 leaking

Hate to tell ya but that carb is bad if it's draining your tank. It shouldn't do that. You could try a inline shut off valve at least it would keep the tank from draining out.

Re: X2 leaking

You failed to tell us where on the carb its leaking.
If its where the float bowl meets the carb body, then a new oring, or depending on the carb, a new gasket will be needed.
But thats NOT what is causing your problem. Its a result of the problem.
Sounds like you have a piece of dirt in the carb float valve.
Also called a needle and seat.
A piece of crud gets between the needle and seat valve. It sticks open the carb float valve to flow fuel into the bowl.
The needle part of the needle and seat valve, is attached to the float in the float bowl. As fuel is allowed past the needle and seat it fills the float bowl. Once the float bowl is filled the 'float' pushs the needle into the seat and shuts the fuel flow off.
If dirt is lodged in the valve (it doesnt take much) it will cause the carb to 'over flow'.
Also, too high a float setting can cause the same problem.

If it was mine, Id take the carb off the bike, and check the needle and seat for debris, and check the float height.

A fuel shut off valve is a good idea on any bike. Its Safe. The bike cant dump its tank onto the floor if the valve is shut off.

If you have indeed a stuck fuel valve. Dont run the bike until you have drained and changed to oil. Fuel can get past the rings. Washing the lubrication from the cylinder walls.
It can also dilute the crank case oil. Which if used can cause bearing failure and cylinder scuffing. Finally, It's a Fire hazard.
Clean the carb. Check the float height, and change the oil.
Good luck!

Re: X2 leaking

Ok have you checked the screws to see if they are loose. You don't have to worry about a float cause your carb doesn't have one. But james could be right about some crap in the carb making it leak fuel. Try and pin point where it's leaking from. What was wrong with the other carb you replaced?

Re: X2 leaking

I know that all of the screws r tight and it appears to be leakin from where the gasket is that is on the intake manifold side....and how do i adjust the needle is that the flat head screw lookin part taht goes straight down thru the carb that starts up by the throttle assembly??? Im not what exactly was wrong with the old one but i cleaned it and tried it again and it didnt work...and now this new one works so i never really knew the problem... just gota get this leak thing figured out...seems to be so touchy...it hasnt even run thru a whole tank of gas yet and the gas is all new so i wasnt thinkin it could be debris in the carb since the tank was totally cleaned out b4 i reassembled everything
