X7 brake and throttle questions.. searched with no luck.

Hey all,

I just got my X7 last nite. I can't wait to crank it up.

I have a question though, is the brake supposed to rub ever so slightly on the front? or is it supposed to be free from moving all together. Mine is slightly rubbing and I cannot completely free it. I know actual cars do have their brake pad touching the rotor at all times but what about these pocket bike?

How do these brakes work? I see a little arm on the caliper assembly, do those work like the caliper pistons on the real cars?

The brake levers sucks big time. I saw many post about how to change them but yet no one seem to mention about the brake light. How do you swapped them with the brake light still usable?

Another question, the throttle does not reset well to the idle position, what can I do to fix this?

I am new to this pocketbike thing but I have been a shade tree mechanics for some time now so I can learn pretty fast. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys for the great info.

Michael K.

There's a screw on the calipers, that you use your hands to tighten or loosen. Tighten or loosen as needed to align the caliper as needed.

it's pretty difficult to swap brake levers and still retain the use of the brake light. i tried replacing the plastic lever with a lever from a bmx, and there's a little switch that the lever needs to hit when you grasp it. fortunately, my lever reached and i was able to use the brake light, but the lever was too short for me so i removed it.

your best bet is to bring your stock lever into a shop and compare mounting holes/lever shape and hope for the best when installing.

and about your calipers rubbing, all you have to do is adjust the brake cable to the point where it doesn't activate the caliper when not being grasped. i'm not sure if the setup is the same on the x7, but on the cateyes there should be a bolt that is tightened onto the brake cable itself. just simply loosen it, adjust your cable, then tighten it up. it's easier to do this if the bike is on a stand.

BB, thanks for the both of the replies. I have spent some time with the bike now and I think I am understanding this stuff now. I also have upgraded the mounting screws to grade 8 *bolts and nuts.
